He passed out before dying from lack of oxygen. In any form of wrestling, when some gets a person in any kind of neck hold, they squeeze the sides of the neck, cutting off blood. Making the person pass out faster. It's also way less dangerous to cut blood off from the brain than it is oxygen. It's honestly probably the cleanest/painless way to off yourself.

Probably talking about cutting off the brains supply of blood, as apposed to the lungs supply of oxygen. They both end up doing the same thing and constricting the neck can accomplish both but effectively cutting the blood to the brain is a bit more involved. Passing out because your brain isn't getting blood is WAY quicker and doesn't have your body giving off that "holy shit i cant fucking breath AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH" panic reaction that asphyxiating does.
