I never understand why these people always choose to go feet or ass first when they jump. Wouldnt you want to dive head first to avoid the possibility of waking up crippled?

Going head first it harder. It's the same as jumping vs diving in a pool : if you're not used to diving, you'll choose to simply jump because it's easier, more natural and less scary. When people try to kill themselves by jumping from a high place, they might not have the courage to actually dive and therefore jump feet first because it's easier and less frightening.

idk, maybe it's more about being able to get yourself to jump in the first place and not thinking too much. More thinking more hesitation maybe? It also tends to be an impulsive decision in the moment most likely, like being overwhelmed that someone you loved died, losing your job, etc, etc.
