Saturday, November 11, 2007 - At 1:04 a.m., a suspected carjacker was traveling south on the passenger side of a stolen car on Judson Street in the Linda Vista neighborhood of San Diego when the driver of the pursued car drove the car south a few feet while the passenger drove south past five houses to the end of the street and then headed toward a backyard.Police began a manhunt along State Route 163 when they spotted a black 2007 Chrysler 300 allegedly carjacked at gunpoint (about 45 minutes ago) on Beadnell Way near Mount Abernathy Avenue in Clairemont shortly before midnight Friday. The driver of the stolen vehicle took the Genesee Avenue exit and drove south on Judson Street toward the cul-de-sac.San Diego Police receive ground instructions from the vantage point of a police helicopter equipped with a FLIR thermal camera. The on-board law enforcement camera was able to warn pursuing officers on the ground that a fleeing suspect was armed with a shotgun, advising the officers not to jump the fence as the suspect appeared to be preparing to use the shotgun on the pursuing officers. A short time later, thermal imaging showed the suspect shot himself in the head with the shotgun, resulting in his own death.The suspect was found in the middle of the backyard of the last house on the west side of Judson Street in San Diego (facing south toward the cul-de-sac). The other suspect, the driver, was arrested further north in the 2200 block of South Judson Street.
