On Saturday July 4 2020 at 1:40AM during the "Black Femme March", part of the 2020 BLM protests, Dawit Kelete, 27, drove into 2 protestors, Summer Taylor, 24, and Diaz Love, 32, on interstate 5 in Seattle Washington. The protestors were walking back to capitol hill, after marching to the police precinct, walking on the I5 freeway when the 2 were hit. Love was hospitalized with fractured limbs and internal injuries but survived while Taylor died at the hospital.

Police blocked entrances to the I5 but the Washington State Patrol said Kelete drove the wrong way onto Interstate 5, around a barricade of parked vehicles and struck the protestors. “(Kelete) knew that the freeway was closed and he was trying to take a shortcut home," Judge Cindi Port said. "That reckless decision resulted in the death of Summer Taylor and the very serious injuries of Diaz Love."

Kelete was charged with reckless driving, vehicular assault, and vehicular homicide. He pleaded guilty and on September 8 2023 was sentenced to 6 and a half years in prison.
