Small plane crashes into a restaurant killing pilot and passenger (hanna city, USA)

James W. Evanson, 75, and his wife Lisa K. Evanson, 67, both of Santa Fe, New Mexico, were identified as the pilot and passenger, respectively. Federal Aviation Administration says Evanson reported engine trouble minutes before the crash.

The plane took off from Santa Fe, New Mexico and was scheduled to land about the time it crashed.

Autopsy on James Evanson shows he experienced multiple blunt force trauma injuries. He was initially conscious on scene but suffered severe and detrimental internal bleeding and broken bones that were not sustainable in the short term. Prop wasnt turning. who knows how much altitude they had when the engine cut out, so this literally may have been the only best place to put it down. Pilot clearly avoided the cars and flew the plane right till the end. Hats off to him for his airmanship.

He tried to save the plane by landing on the road when a open field would be more appropriate

I can only guess he didn't have that option. At age 75, he probably has several hundred if not thousand hours of flight time, so not a rookie. Being that he was expected to land back at the airfield at the time the plane went down, it's likely he did not have the kind of altitude he needed to find a field.

You have a good point. I must say however, some people only start their flight careers after retirement and 75 can somewhat impact your skill, despite experience :marseyplanecrash:

Agreed. Plenty of rich boomers that have the time and $ to start late.
