A fatal accident occurred on the Presidential Bridge in Ulyanovsk on July 21. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the Ulyanovsk region, the 39-year-old KAMAZ driver could not maintain a safe distance and drove into the Kia Rio, in which a young family from Tolyatti was traveling. Under the weight of the heavy truck, the car was dragged to the side and pressed against another KAMAZ, which was standing on the roadway. No one from the family survived the accident. A 2-year-old baby died, her father was 29 years old, and later her mother, 25 years old, died in Ulyanovsk hospital.
The driver of the KAMAZ, as established by the police, was drunk. The investigators opened a criminal case under Part 6 of Article 264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation "Violation of traffic rules and operation of vehicles, which caused the death of two or more persons by negligence." The alleged culprit of the accident worked for the Ulyanovsk municipal road company Dorremstroy.
