A tragic accident claimed the life of a motorcyclist on Jalan MT Haryono or Tanjakan Mazda Balikpapan on Wednesday (27/3/2024) morning. A container truck that lost control crashed into a motorcyclist and killed him on the spot.The ten-wheeled truck was traveling from Jalan Soekarno-Hatta towards MT Haryono RSKD. While on the Mazda ramp, the truck lost control and swerved to the right. On the opposite lane, a motorcycle could not avoid and collided with the truck.
As a result of the violent collision, the motorcycle was split in two and caught fire. The motorcyclist did not survive and died at the scene. The container loaded by the truck was dislodged and the truck itself hit a shophouse.
Joko, one of the eyewitnesses, said that he only heard a loud crash before seeing the truck hit the shophouse.
Kasatlantas Polresta Balikpapan, Kompol Ropiyani, through Kanit Laka Satlantas Polresta Balikpapan, Ipda Danang Suparman, explained that the incident is estimated to have occurred at 06.00 Wita.
The victim died on the spot and was rushed to the nearest hospital. The truck driver was taken to the Balikpapan Police Station for questioning regarding the cause of the accident.
