One of my lessons at driving school was what to do if the car broke down in the freeway:
If possible move the car to the side of the road/ emergency lane.
All passengers must immediately exit the vehicle and move off the road.
Open the trunk all the way up, put the alarm lights on and place the emergency triangle 100 meters before the car.
Then the driver must also go off the road as well before trying to get help.
