He was trying to help but why would he continue walking into the road while staring at an oncoming vehicle? I imagine most people would assume it's going to slow or* stop, but you can't always assume that's how it'll go. As you see here, he assumed that and now he's likely dead.
Graveyards are filled with people who had the right of way. That's a phrase my driving instructor told the class when we were doing driving school. A user on here told me this one "You may be right, but you'll be dead right.". He says that really helped sink in the danger and how you always need to be defensive driving and on the lookout as a pedestrian.

i had a similar incident in vietnam, much less serious. i was crossing a busy roads during rush hour, so i was just basically forcing my way through traffic cuz it works better that way over there to let them know your intended path. well anyways, during the last street to cross , an old lady grabbed on to my arm i guess cuz she saw me crossing and wanted to follow. i was like err ok sure, so i proceded to cross same way but a little bit slower cuz old lady was hanging on to my arm, well in the middle lane of the street i take the opening in front of a taxi to get to the center, taxi let me go but old lady got smacked by the side mirror. we made it to the other side but i felt kinda bad even tho it wasnt my fault.
