Your body is travelling at the same speed as the car. When your body suddenly comes to a stop on the seat in front of you, your internal organs hit your ribcage at full force. Always wear a seatbelt, they let your body decelerate much slower (even though it doesn't seem like a big difference, in terms of impact force it's huge).
