The explanation is that high speed impacts aren't something that your car radio is designed around. The radio didn't "shut off", all the parts inside it and the car were subjected to forces that they were not designed to withstand. The result is that the audio cut out for a few seconds and then restarted when power was able to correctly flow to the radio again.
