Planes and trains, cars and bikes, trucks and buses. If someone is killed thanks to any kind of vehicle, this is where it belongs. Here you will learn to look both ways before crossing the street (or the train tracks), why motorcycles are 30 times deadlier than cars, and more!

Thanks for the context. What a sad story.
I can’t believe the prosecutor was happy to let him plead to manslaughter with a max of 30 years. That was at least 2nd degree and for the death of 3 people should be life without parole.

If he's passed out behind the wheel and didn't swerve towards the victims, the prosecutor can't prove to a jury there was an intent to kill, only a reckless disregard for life when he got behind the wheel in the first place. I agree this case should warrant a life sentence, but vehicle-based killings are a loophole in the justice system. If you black out on drugs and wake up having killed someone by stabbing or shooting, a jury would more easily convict you of murder.

The fact this happened in 2019 it was around the time fent was starting to show but wasn’t as prevalent as it is now (it’s nearly everything). I have a bleeding heart for people in general and that includes people struggling with opiate addiction so my first thoughts were maybe not knowing fent was in his shit played a factor along with the assumption that he didn’t intend to kill, but he was sick and only cared about himself getting well. Then I read he had a prior offense with passing out behind the wheel high. At that point he’s well aware that it’s not just a risk but bound to happen and he still chose to do it. Even if it was his addict self’s choice and not his genuine self’s he’s still the one who should pay the consequences. It’s really sad for all involved.

Being high on drugs should never be a mitigating factor. It should be an aggrivating one.

If you're on drugs and you kill someone behind the wheel it should definitely be held against you during court and it should definitely hold you responsible for more jail time.
