A 73-year-old man is dead and a 45-year-old man seriously injured after a two-car crash Tuesday night near Hamilton’s downtown core.

Emergency services were called to Barton Street West and MacNab Street North just after 9 p.m. for reports of a serious car crash.

Hamilton police Const. Krista-Lee Ernst said the 73-year-old was pronounced dead in hospital and the 45-year-old was critically hurt, but in stable condition in hospital.

The men were the drivers of the two cars involved in the crash. There were no passengers in either vehicle and no other reported injuries.

Video posted on social media from a MacNab Street North property shows a car speeding north on MacNab, blowing through a stop sign at Colbourne Street without braking, and then continuing toward Barton. At that intersection, the car T-bones a westbound car on the driver’s side without slowing. The intersection of Barton and MacNab is controlled by four-way stop signs.

No charges have been laid and the investigation by the collision reconstruction unit is ongoing.

These are the ones that upset me the most. First world country, no reason to speed, just being a complete jackass for a bit of thrill. Doesn't even manage the courtesy of dying, instead plucking an innocent life. Fuck these people. Seeing as its Canada, I doubt the sentence will even be that severe.

And in a country this big no less. Hamilton is surrounded by empty country roads ffs. Just go speed out there, that way no one else gets hurt and if natural selection takes you we dont have to find you for a few days
