It is not a coincidence. I am from Brazil and this kind of "reaction" has become quite common over here. The people are tired of impunity by the justice system and they run over these scum whenever possible. There are several videos like this from Brazil and still, the justice system often punishes the car driver as, like in this instance here, was not "under threat or being robbed". I think these brave drivers should be given medals and cash to repair their cars. Unfortunately, our system makes crime and criminals feel safe and certain of no punishment at all.
The law in Brazil has something called "sentence progression". This means that if you stay inside for one sixth of your sentence, you can claim for "semi-locked regime". You get out everyday, do your shit, then come back to sleep in jail. A couple of years later, you're free to go. If your sentence is less than 6 years and you're a first time defendant, you may not even spend a night in jail at all. It's a fucking joke.
