This happens so often in videos I've watched - someone stops in time, but is hit from behind by another vehicle, and, I suspect, because they are not wearing a seatbelt, they are knocked away from the controls of their car, and they are completely unable to hit the brake. I've probably seen this happen 8 or 9 times in videos over the years.
