One of the wildest crashes I've seen in motorsports outside of the Le Mans disaster where the car hit the grandstands and killed 55 people or some of the isle of man TT motorcycle crashes (a video of one getting air off a bridge and doing 150-0 instantly hitting a building adjacent to the track; Isle of Man is wild and likely deserves its own post)
Anyway for some background Tom Pryce's teammate Renzo Zori is off to the side due to a fuel pump issue causing a fire. He is having trouble disconnecting the oxygen line from his helmet and as a result fire marshals step in to intervene. The problem is they don't have clearance and opt to run across a track which now has two incoming formula 1 cars doing over 170mph. Hans-Joachim Stuck is ahead of Pryce and sees the marshals at the last second and said he didn't have time to even process and just reacted, missing the first marshal Bill by millimeters.
The second marshal carried a 40lb fire extinguisher and was slow to get off the track. Unable to react in time Tom Pryce's car strikes 19 year old Frederik "Frikkie" Jansen van Vuuren at full speed, hitting him so hard that his body is flipped and spins completely apart. Unfortunately for Pryce the 40lb fire extinguisher tessellated straight through the cockpit and smashed him in the face, most likely killing him instantly. The force of the impact was such that the extinguisher was thrown up and over the adjacent grandstand. It landed in the car park to the rear of the stand, where it hit a parked car and jammed its door shut.
