When I was in the military during training we used to stand in a long queue when handing in our rifles, at the armory, before going on R&R (weekend leave)

we used to fuck around by cocking the rifle and bouncing it on the ground - on the stock.

with some rifles the firing pin would actually drop (fire) from the bump - as-if the trigger was pulled.

Moral of the story - if you're not in active combat, NEVER have a round chambered.

whether you have your safety engaged or not.

Not all rifles come off the production line exactly the same.

as with most things in life, theres always that one "fuck-up unit" that ruins your day.

If someone isn't competent enough to carry a firearm chambered safely, they shouldn't be carrying a firearm period

Yes why would they need to have rounds chambered in a case like this where they're just having a chat - "shooting the breeze" as it were...

If you get in the habit of carrying unchambered you will most likely also be carrying unchambered when the shtf, one less thing to worry about in a panic situation,if someone is that big of a fucking retard that they don't know you shouldn't point a gun at your head ever then he deserved it,just glad he didn't take out some other poor bastard

This is true also. I suppose that being a professional officer, he should be inspecting his kit before every shift, and making sure things are safe and in good condition. If he'd noticed his sling was hanging by a thread, he'd still be here to tell us about how they finally issued him a new sling. It's really amazing how the early development of good (or bad, for that matter) habits can really make or break situations - the difference between life and death, really, in some cases. Things like firearm safety, driving, flying an aircraft, riding motorcycle - the list goes on and on.

How in the fuck does a broken sling pull the trigger? How did the sling even break to begin with? The universe wanted this guy dead right then and there.

Not all weapons are “safe”, my best guess would be that the impact of the gun hitting the ground somehow triggered it as if the trigger had been pulled… It all depends on the model of the weapon really, some are safer and others are straight up dangerous to even be close to :marseydoit:

Guns can only go off by themselves from an impact if the firing pin isn't spring loaded, and the only gun I know of that isn't spring loaded is the SKS. Not only that, but the gun fired in full auto. Doesn't really make sense.

My best guess is the sling broke and a piece of the metal hook managed to make a 1 in a million shot and hook onto the trigger itself, pulling it back.

Keep your safeties on. Also never drop a loaded SKS lol.

Unfortunately, the clock is ticking

The hours are going by. The past increases, the future recedes. Possibilities decreasing, regrets mounting.
