Accidentally shot the kid, in a moment of pure panic decided to shoot herself as well rather than face her parents. That's what I got out of this.
I came from a family that wasn't physically abusive but certainly wasn't a place that made you feel safe, and I can absolutely imagine a series of events that would have led me to kill myself to escape the reaction or punishment of my parents.

Honestly I don't think she feared her parents, I believe I would have done the same. She already knew should couldn't overcome her own sense of guilt, that's what made her act so quickly. She immediately realized she could never forgive herself for that fatal shot.

This is a message to all gun owners, especially ones who are parents. Please put and lock your guns in an area where children can't get them. Put them high enough for you to reach, but not your kids. Also, teach your kids that guns are not toys, they are dangerous when put on the wrong hands, even if they think it's not loaded. Do everything you can to prevent incidents like this from happening.

I think itâs a toss-up because people should have the right to arm themselves and protect themselves and the people around them BUT you get ignorant, thoughtless people who create the circumstances for a tragedy like this to occur. For the record Iâm Canadian, thereâs no such thing as concealed carry or automatic weapon ownership here and i still believe people should have the right to arm themselves and to protect themselves if necessary. I have a .44 Desert Eagle and I'm extremely paranoid of this so I keep it away in our summer house, the gun and ammo are hidden in different boxes in the attic. I can't comprehend why people don't TEACH people in their household how to handle a gun when they own one, at least teach your kids how to use the safety it you really can't trust them doing what kids do. Of course it's still irresponsible to some extent, keeping the gun somewhere they obviously reached and not teach them anything about fingers near triggers and barrels near heads
