Pretty sure the cold is not the real danger. I believe it's then lack of oxygen that can undo any strong-minded and able-bodied climber.

Apparently there's a point during hypothermia where the body begins to feel warm again. I believe it's when one is close to death. I don't think it's new warmth, just it being dispersed differently.
