what if... you follow the ram when is backing up before charging and stay as close as possible to it, taunting it

would the ram continue backing up indefinitely to try and get the distance it needs? it would fuck with its brain dude. problem, ram? :marseytroll:

Yes, it would. Why he didn't try to roll under the manger's beyond me- but yeah- if it's backing up- keep going forward, you'll get less injured the closer you are to it. Same with horses or cattle- I'd rather be hanging onto it's face, than it's ass. Neither can kick effectively if you are super close, and they can't really do a lot with their head if you are hanging off the halter. (I survived a kick to my eye, detached my retina but didn't kill me.)

I wouldn't be afraid of a ram, they aren't that large though their hitting power can be quite impressive- they don't generally weigh more than 300 pounds (a ram, not a ewe/female sheep, they weigh much less)

Rams can be miserable assholes, but it looks like these two had been playing games and the ram just got way too, rammy.

Oh you don't want to get too close to a pissed horse, they can turn on a dime and kick you

Oh, I know, trust me. But- a horse can't kick with force if you are super close to their body- they might cow-kick at you sideways but the idea is they will hit you with their leg instead of their sharp hooves if you are close.

Had I been a foot closer to the horse who nearly took my eye, she wouldn't have caught me with her hoof- as it was she got me on the browbone, laid it open. Was totally my fault, I was a kid and braiding her tail, I needed to be closer or off to one side.

One thing's for sure, I will be more careful around horses from now on. They usually look pretty chill

They usually are pretty chill- but horses have a pretty large blind spot, like in your car, and anyone that steps into that blind spot is inviting their Fight or Flight response. It's instinctive. https://i.watchpeopledie.tv/images/16935141642509923.webp

My injury when I was braiding the tail is I didn't step out of her blind spot when she was wasp stung, causing her to kick me right in the left eyebrow. The doctor had to come pick me up to stitch me (long time ago!) because Dad was flying and Mom didn't drive. He was a family friend, but still. I got 6 stitches, a contrecoup injury, and a retinal detachment in later life. She came so close to taking out my eye, it's ability to move saved it. And if she'd had back shoes on, she's have taken it or me out. So always beware a hind shod horse.

It's funny to write- this was before 911. Was before my county had an ambulance service, we were a big spread out county, not heavily populated. I was just a kid, so the mid 70s.

My rule for horses now is stay 6 feet away from their hind feet, or 6 inches.
