This is exactly how you stop a dog who's biting someone or something. It's a blood choke, not an airway choke. It's better if they have a collar or if you have some kind of rope. You get high up on the neck and squeeze. Done right, doggo will be asleep in seconds. Nothing else will work nearly as fast.

The actual action of a choke hold, if done properly, doesnt actually cut off the airway its stops bloodflow to the brain like tapaddickt said. That goes for everything, humans, dogs ect. However if you dont do it properly it does cut the airway off. A chokehold is actually used to subdue people, not kill
