From what I’ve gathered on this vid, which has been around for a long time — It was a neck-through-throat shot.
So as he’s running, he drops his rifle and both hands go to hold his neck/scarf area — This is done as he drops and rolls, when he’s upright again, he still has his hands on his neck.
As for the death, if the bullet managed to exit, he probably started choking on blood pretty quickly with ruptured vessels — and the added reality that his body may have vomited to try to “cleanse” the pain in the throat.
If blood, bullet fragments and skin tissue blocking your airway won’t kill you - The upcoming puke certainly will try!

I believe we hear the first salvo while the guy is alive and fine - in the next couple of seconds just before he gets hit, you hear the bullet cracks somewhat matching the firing pattern of that first rifle’s blasts
Though we can’t verify 100% they were shooting at him, we can be pretty confident that the victim heard the cracks and suddenly couldn’t talk as he heard the crack of the bullet that impacted him.
It looks pretty flat, so combat between rifles at longer ranges is not unreasonable - But I don’t have any details for this
