Whether someone just didn't know how to swim or was held underwater or something else, if their lungs filled with water (or perhaps some other liquid) and could no longer breathe, here is where it should be.

Is it just me or do u have to be a special kind of stupid to jump in deep water when you know u can't swim? Or am I missing something here

Generally this type of scenario happens because the victim hasn't been in a situation where they feel in danger in the water or where they can't easily escape. Then they go jumping into water that is deeper than expected or doesn't have an easy way out and start to panic, which only makes things worse as they're reaching for something to hold onto rather than pushing down on the water to keep their head above the surface.

Honestly you might be right. The first time I swam in deep deep ocean (almost a mile to the bottom), it kinda made me panic. I was this tiny speck in the blue and it felt like the deep was sucking me down even though I was floating at the top.

Apparently, quarries have really cold water. So cold shock could've been a factor. I doubt he would get in if he didn't know how to swim.
"A variety of risks make swimming in quarries more perilous than in other areas. Traditionally, water in a quarry is much colder than in rivers, lakes and oceans. Often, the quarries are fed with water from underground springs or aquifers, originating from deep within the ground.
One's body, when entering such a cold body of water, follows a three-stage response. The first stage, within the first four minutes, is that of cold shock. A gasp response can cause one to drown within seconds. The initial cold-water exposure can also affect breathing, heart rate and the body's metabolism.
Depending upon how long one is in the water, circulation can decrease, causing stiff fingers, less coordination and a loss of motor skills. This reaction of the body makes it difficult, if not impossible, to grasp a rescue line or a hoist, and the possibility of swimming to safety or climbing out of the water becomes no longer possible."

This guy is just a shitty swimmer. I have gone swimming in snow runoff and never felt like I was about to drown. Maybe have a heart attack from shock I can see but this guy doesn't even seem to understand how to float.

I thought that too, but he's definitely not ready for cold water swims. Did you see how he was trying to acclimate his body like you would in a pool?

Im with you on this. He looks unable to swim. Did he suddenly decide hed try it in water too deep to stand on? Was there some kind of unseen current or undercurrent in the Quarry water caused by the constant rippling or mechanism in the water? He goes from trying to swim out to trying to seemingly swim right back, but is unable to hold on to the rocks. This is weird either way and I hope that child find their peace one day.
