How absolutely incompetent at life do you have to be to drown right next to shore?

Take a closer look at the edge of that pond. Do you think it would have been EASY to climb out of there?

For a full grown man with no physical handicap? Absolutely. No doubt about it. Are you saying you couldn't?

Absolutely that would be VERY difficult to climb out of. Notice it is a plastic type tarp. Under the water it's covered with VERY slippery moss.

I've seen about 4 videos of animals getting stuck in similar manufactured ponds - and they CAN'T get out.

Most animals also don't have opposable thumbs (or 'hands' for that matter). Or the levels of cognizance humans typically have.

Again, it's not hard to get out of those. I'd know, I've fallen into one before (dumb teenager doing dumb shit). All you have to do is drag yourself out by the tarp, like climbing a rope. If it tears, guess what? You've discovered the dirt underneath, and it becomes even easier to climb out. At least that's how I did it. But you are 100% correct on one thing - they are very slippery, so you can't just try and stand up or use your feet for grip.

Certainly, if you can find a fold in the tarp, you can grab that - but what if the tarp is tightly stretched everywhere?

(I would think your best bet at finding a fold would be in the corners.)

But there are certainly people dumb enough to not find a way out of that type of artificial pond.
