A word of advice: Do not, I repeat, do NOT go near a drowning person.
They will claw onto you and pull you under as well, no matter if you are a proficient swimmer. While in a panic, they will latch onto anything they can to stop themselves from drowning.
Only help them if they're still rational (pre head-dunking under the water), knock them out, or wait for them to lose their strength.

Absolutely that would be VERY difficult to climb out of. Notice it is a plastic type tarp. Under the water it's covered with VERY slippery moss.
I've seen about 4 videos of animals getting stuck in similar manufactured ponds - and they CAN'T get out.

Most animals also don't have opposable thumbs (or 'hands' for that matter). Or the levels of cognizance humans typically have.
Again, it's not hard to get out of those. I'd know, I've fallen into one before (dumb teenager doing dumb shit). All you have to do is drag yourself out by the tarp, like climbing a rope. If it tears, guess what? You've discovered the dirt underneath, and it becomes even easier to climb out. At least that's how I did it. But you are 100% correct on one thing - they are very slippery, so you can't just try and stand up or use your feet for grip.

No one taught me how to swim, but I can. It's an innate ability in some, and at the very least, you should be able to move your arms and legs in such a way to create upward thrust and not sink like a fucking rock.

What were the early conditions when you taught yourself?
I think that some people do learn without others specifically teaching them, but swimming is not innate at all. Children especially can learn very quickly. I would think, typically when they have access to a relatively safe swimming location and when others are there who can display swimming ability and also encourage you to be safe. Did you have any of this?
However, I think it is fairly innate to be able to produce upward thrust, the type that this guy did until he wore himself out.

I probably should have used the word ‘intuitively' instead of ‘innate'. Turns out that only humans and the great apes are some of the only mammals where the ability to swim is not inherited but rather acquired - something to do with our bipedalism, they say.

Before I learned how to swim my cousin pulled an innocent prank by pushing me into the deep end (12ft) of my tias pool. Ofc not knowing how to swim and being basically near the center of the deep end and panicking, I did basically what the guy in the vid did except thankfully my natural movements gave me sideway movements and I got to the wall safely. The guy in the vid, literally flailed all around and stayed basically in the same spot LMAO. Dumbass shouldn't have jumped in knowing he couldn't swim.
