The kid probably should've gotten out of the water, taken off the inflatable ring and tossed it out to the guy. Instead, he goes to help, immediately backs out, and goes to sit outside of the water nearby—STILL WEARING THE INFLATABLE TUBE AROUND HIS WAIST—and literally just sits and watches.
I usually try not to begrudge children too much for being dumb, but goddamn...the thoughtlessness displayed from the kid(s) here was borderline impressive.
