No they aren't. They paid thousands to coyotes to get them this far. They're trying to get to Europe so they can either earn more money or be benefits scabs. If they were truly desperate, they would have stopped in the first safe country they entered rather than passing through a dozen on their way to northern Europe.
The real desperate ones are stuck at home because they can't afford to leave their home countries.

Look man, I agree that immigrants should really try to avoid illegal actions when trying to move to another country, but saying that they deserved to die in one of the most agonizing ways imaginable because of their blind desperation for a better future is such a horribly foolish comment.
Do you think White people moved to the Americas/"New World" starting in the 15th Century in any legal manner? Of course not. They didn't enter through any designated immigration centers; they didn't receive extensive screening; they didn't have to provide as well as sign mountains of paperwork; they didn't have to suffer through the grueling task of relentlessly studying and preparing for an exam about the history, culture, and language of the place they were moving to, of which its score determined whether you could become a citizen or not; and they certainly didn't have to assimilate in any way.
No, White people were illegal immigrants-- all of them-- and they, just like modern illegal immigrants, were prone to sicknesses (ex. scurvy), pain, exhaustion, and even death (ex. drowning by accidently falling out of the ship; starvation was also common).
We all think immigration is some picture-perfect, 100% free and easy process, and I honestly think that's ignorance at its finest.

This is brutality on another level. The guy tosses out a single thin rope with no holds or anything to the people, and ask them to remain calm, then films as they slowly drown. I’m surprised the boat stayed floating, there are a few documentaries out there where refugees seeing they are about to be saved will deflate their own boat to force a rescue, unfortunately In this case, it was probably a privately owned ship, so they did all they could by tossing down a rope while a larger boat remains on deck. The smugglers driving the refugees realize what’s up and move away, they don’t deflate the boat, and all the people who thought they were saved jump off trying to force a rescue only to find they were fucked and the boat has zero responsibilities towards them.
On the darkest parts of the internet, there are at least two videos I have seen where the refugees are slowly plinked off by a rifle after they have deflated their own boat… I haven’t seen them in years, but I know they exist.
