He miraculously survived after hammering three 10cm (4in) nails into his own head.
X-rays revealed that the nails had been hammered through the man's skull and into his brain – but he made a full recovery following surgery.
The unnamed 69-year-old was discharged after spending three months in a hospital in Haifeng County, Fujian province in China, to be treated for what he claims were self-inflicted injuries.
The man insisted that he himself hammered nails into his own head and that hospital staff should not call police (PIcture: HAP/Quirky China News/Rex)
However, despite maintaining that he hammered the nails in himself, hospital staff believed the injuries must have been inflicted by someone else because of their severity.
The very lucky man insisted police should not be called, and no one was arrested in connection with the incident.

That is very possible and most likely the case. They bothered to take an MRI-image, perform surgery and he's on a hospital bed instead of in the morgue.

"A Chinese man has had three four-inch nails removed that had been hammered into his skull, after claiming he did it to himself.
