Concepts such as brutality, consent, desire, legality and morality are inherent but ultimately defined by institutions; therefore, not all social constructs can apply to every unique individual in a logical way. The argument that cannibalism should be legalised between consenting adults is one that has been raised by many over the course of human civilization, sometimes due to existing cases that have been brought to attention in court. The argumentative statement, however, is very clear with its terms: human cannibalism is the act involving “eating of human flesh by humans” (Encyclopedia Britannica, 2024), consenting adult means “person who is legally considered old enough to decide” (Merriam-Webster, 2024) his or her course of action, and to legalise refers to the political action of “allow[ing] something by law” (Cambridge Dictionary, 2024). In this manner, it is only logical that cannibalism between adults who had agreed to consent to eating or be eaten by the other participant be legalised, provided there is ample opportunity to properly discuss the consequences and conditions beforehand. The argument is that consent between two adults is ultimately made, altered and limited by preferences and agreement, and cannot be judged by outside factors once made.
