True that…. They're used in wound care. I remember having the us army survival manual as a child which said that if you have a wound, expose it to flies. Cover when maggots appear and let them much away. When it becomes painful, they have gotten to viable tissue. Piss on the wound and flush them out (it's sterile when fresh from the tap).

No, not every type of maggot helps. Only a specific type from the green-bottle fly which will eat dead tissue only, whereas others will indeed eat live tissue.
