Sad but 100% true. I'd have probably taken the same shot too. The moment a knife was in the picture it was do or die, just by how fast the dude coulda killed the kid. Could have easily cut the throat faster then they coulda shot him if he just committed to it. It's true that help was right there and that a cut to the throat can be survivable, even if the artery is cut. However those are just cops, not emts, so the odds of them being able to keep the kid from bleeding out aren't that great. That's not even getting into how fast you would need help to even have a chance depending on how bad the cut is.
