The case of 57-year-old Roger Schafer recently gained attention on social media as activists around the country have highlighted use of force by officers. Police had responded to a call that Schafer was waving what turned out to be a BB gun at traffic and video shows him reaching toward his waistband immediately before officers opened fire.

Officer Joshua Ohlinger, a member of the city Division of Police for five years, has been identified by police officials as the officer who shot 66-year-old Michael L. Cleveland in the back. Columbus police Chief Elaine Bryant said during a press conference Monday that Ohlinger's status at the division is pending a psychiatric evaluation.

Ohlinger was previously placed on leave for nearly three months after he shot a teenager with a gun during a traffic stop in August.

"I'm concerned for his well-being and I'm concerned for the community," Bryant said in response to questions about whether she was concerned that Ohlinger has shot two people in less than six months.

Body camera footage shows a brief vehicle chase following a traffic stop around 3:05 p.m. Sunday in the 1000 block of Wilson Avenue on the South Side. Bryant said it was not clear what led to the traffic stop because Columbus police cannot interview Ohlinger since the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is investigating the shooting.

Bryant said Cleveland did not have any outstanding warrants for his arrest, although he had an expired license.

Cleveland eventually pulls his black pickup truck over in an alley behind some residences, exits the vehicle and flees. Ohlinger chases Cleveland, initially pulling out his stun gun as he chases Cleveland from behind a rear courtyard off of Wilson in between two residential buildings.

Sacramento, CA — Public exposure threatens to engulf the Sacramento Police Department in controversy, following an audit that exposes rampant civil rights violations. Adding fuel to this impending inferno is a video depicting officers arresting a 10-year-old girl, an act that leaves indelible marks on the already tarnished image of the department.

This disturbing episode dates back to February 2022, with the police body cam footage only recently surfacing. It displays a nerve-wracking scene wherein officers seize a young girl right after she opens her door. Her cries pierce the silent ambiance as an officer coldly inquires about the other house occupants.

"This footage wrenches the gut, but 'shocked' wouldn't be the right word," remarked Meg White, co-founder of Justice Unites Individuals and Communities Everywhere. She asserts that Sacramento's police have an egregious record of brutality, especially towards Black residents, reflecting a deeply ingrained systemic bias.

To underscore this, the Sacramento Office of Public Safety released a damning audit featuring more than 100 complaints against Sacramento officers, amassed over two years. White is convinced the real figure exceeds this number, as these complaints only represent those officially filed.

Unsettlingly, the city's police chief conceded to the wrongdoings, promising improvement. But the question remains whether this pledge extends to a policy governing handcuffing children. As per CBS13, Sacramento police are supposedly contemplating such measures.

Police experts chime in to justify handcuffing as a safety measure for officers, other citizens, and the person in custody. Such a rationale, offered by Dr. Shelby Moffatt, a professor at Sacramento State and ex-officer, seems blatantly tone-deaf, given the context.

The audit shockingly exposes that constitutional rights were infringed in over a third of these cases. This violation is not restricted to grave scenarios but extends to petty issues like minor traffic infractions due to illegal window tints. However, the real issue isn't the absence of a ticket but the flagrant racial profiling, as most complainants were Black or Latino drivers.

In a mind-boggling defense, ex-Sheriff John McGinness questions the legitimacy of the racial bias claim. He also trivializes the absence of citations by attributing them to the benevolence of verbal warnings.

For critics like White, the mistrust between police and communities of color won't dissipate unless the department sincerely commits to community-driven policies. A tough task ahead indeed, given the ever-widening chasm of trust

Michigan police kick in a bathroom door and stop a mother from drowning her baby. Her other children were poisoned, but they are expected to recover. the infant in the video did survive after cops performed CPR on her. The article does not say anything about the mother’s motive or possible state of mind when this happened. I also noticed that no father was mentioned during the story. The video on the news site is the same one that I’m posting so you don’t have to watch it.

Feel free to delete it if it’s a re-post or move it to a different category if it’s in the wrong one.
