If I have a lot of pressure inside, I do it... for whatever reason. I can't handle my emotions well. It helps for a moment, the pain isn't as noticeable as usual because you're so tense. Afterwards it hurts and it calms down a bit. I guess it's the brain that distracts from the internal pain and fixates on the physical pain. (that's my assumption)
