I know exactly what you’re talking about. I’ve done deep self harm on my arm before and next day it felt the way it looked. I can’t describe the feeling because it sure as hell doesn’t feel like any other small injuries I’ve had before.

I've cut off the tip of my thumb accidentally while working and it didn't even hurt until I had to clean my thumb with water at the doctor's office, stings like hell, I figured it was the adrenaline that didn't make it hurt for a good hour and a half but even after it didn't hurt that much except when showering or washing my hands.

as a person who cuts this deep regularly, it doesnt hurt at all at that point. even to put alcohol in the fat area, doesnt hurt. its mostly around the cut that hurts and it gets sore about a day after

Something with bad or non existent coping skills and emotional outlet, sexual abuse, punishment, numbing the pain inside with actual physical distraction, body issues and a zillion reasons more. Not everyone who cuts shows off what they do and if anything they hide it because it's not cool at all.
Some people drink, some use drugs, some hide theirselves from the world all day and some people cut. Would think a not dumb grown up person could figure that one out themselves.

We’ll thank you for some sort of perspective. I find it hard to understand people coping skills sometimes. I have trauma in my life too and never saw harm to be an option I always just put my head in exercise.

When you cut it releases adrenaline and endorphines in your brain giving you a sort of high. I use to cut my bicep and shoulder because it was easier to hide than wrist cuts. People are misinformed when it comes to self harm, I mean you can tell when it's a cry for help and when it's a full fledged addiction, the deeper the cuts the higher you get. Most I can say is that it feels like a runners high.
