I think he was getting tired of being a maid, he somehow no longer saw a way out of this life of service.

I read the report and the person to blame for this poor thing jumping to her death was her employer, her boss, he didn't let this unhappy girl go to her old mother's funeral. Combining the sadness of being a servant, the sadness for your deceased mother and the sadness of not being able to go to the wake, it's really terrible...
