You are correct in your observations but when someone close to you is addicted and destroying themselves the right thing to do is to turn that anger you feel into the energy that will get them to go through an epiphany of self awareness to get clean.
Many drug addicts feel worthless and do not wish to live - it's their choice.... but if it's your son or daughter the natural urge is to save them.
I went through a type of hell and watched relapse after relapse trying to get my son clean which he is now.
Druggies are liars and the worst when they are addicted but some can be rehabilitated if they have support.

We don't know if the brother told the parents as soon as he knew that his sister was addicted. Maybe he tried talking about it to the sister that she should get help, as the addiction will get worse. Maybe he suggested to the sister that she should tell the parents so they will work it out together. But it is also possible that the parents were abusive, and that caused the girl to become addicted, and when the parents found out they vent nuts. But we dont know any of the background story, so if it was a normal family with good conditions, it is most likely the best option to get help
