Railroad crossing gates were down when Jeffrey D. King rode his bicycle across the tracks and was fatally struck by a Brightline train Jan. 17 in Boynton Beach, according to video recorded from the train's locomotive. The video, released by Boynton Beach police, shows King riding around the closed crossing arms in an apparent attempt to beat the train, which was traveling at 78 mph, according to police. King is seen being clipped by the right side of the train. The impact threw him nearly 100 feet, according to the police report. King, 51, lived in Boynton Beach and worked at Troy's BBQ in Boynton. The case has been classified as an accidental death, but remains active pending further details from the medical examiner, according to the police report.
