Naryan-Mar, Russia

July 29, 2016

The Naryan-Mar City Court considered a criminal case against the driver, who caused one of the most tragic road accidents in recent years in Naryan-Mar in July 2016.

As previously reported NAO24 , On July 29 last year at about 18:00 near the residential building No. 22 on Aviatorov Street, the BMW driver, being intoxicated and moving from Rossiyskaya Street towards Oktyabrskaya Street at a speed of 107 km/h, lost control.

The car flew into a ditch, followed by repeated overturning. All the passengers were thrown out of the cabin. None of them, as the investigation later found out, were wearing seat belts.

One of the passengers died on the spot from her injuries. Three other young people, including the driver, were taken to the intensive care unit of the Nenets District Hospital.

During the investigation, it also turned out that less than two months before this high-profile accident, the driver had already been brought to administrative responsibility for driving while intoxicated. On June 8, 2016, the magistrate of the judicial district No. 2 of the Nenets Autonomous Okrug sentenced him to an administrative fine of 30,000 rubles and deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for 1 year and 11 months.

As a result, the young man was charged in court under two articles at once – "violation of traffic rules by a person subjected to administrative punishment" (Article 264.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and "violation of traffic rules by a person driving a car in a state of intoxication, which negligently caused serious harm to human health, death of a person" (Part 4 Article 264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).

According to the totality of crimes, the driver was sentenced to imprisonment for 4 years, serving his sentence in a penal colony, with deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for 3 years.
