Aftermath:

Trujillo, Peru

At the beginning of Palm Sunday, the city of Trujillo, in the La Libertad region, became the scene of a violent traffic accident in which a heavy refrigerated truck collided at full speed with 10 smaller vehicles, at the Chicama tollbooth. The authorities reported that there are at least two people dead, in addition to a dozen injured, several of them seriously, who are hospitalized in various hospitals in the area.

Witnesses to the violent collision stated that the heavy vehicle lost its brakes and rammed into the other units in which mothers with their children and some elderly people were traveling.

The traffic accident occurred after one in the afternoon on Sunday, March 24. The smaller vehicles were parked to enter through the Chicama tollbooth, when the truck destroyed them at full speed, according to testimonies from passersby.

“What we have observed is that the trailer came at a high speed due to apparent mechanical failures,” said a witness.

The 12 injured, several of them seriously, were helped by ambulances from the Mobile Emergency Care System (SAMU) and the Peru Fire Company and transferred to hospitals in this area of Trujillo.

A representative of the 'men in red' confirmed that there are two dead and more than a dozen injured. The health authorities have been caring with all their efforts for the victims who were hospitalized, but there are some with a reserved prognosis.
