Without talking about the political aspect of this, what makes anyone think it's okay to run protesters over? You should have the right to peacefully protest something you believe in, and I think if it were a gay person who ran over a crowd of conservative protesters the reaction would be drastically different; I smell bias. Also, I don't think protesting in the middle of the road is the best idea, but it doesn't warrant the potential killing of the protesters.

I feel you (in a sense), but I do not agree with running over protesters. If you have an emergency, get out and share your sympathies or empathy to the cause, explain your emergency, get some protester to listen and help you, like a rational person. Then you will likely meet your expectation value for the evening (e.g., getting to the hospital). Otherwise, you may end up dead or in jail. It's about framed rationality. Now, if your "emergency" is making it to a date, I think that can wait, objectively. There are pressing issues at hand, at present, and only protesting can help us sort them out!
