There was a game that I observed some kids play at school where a few kids would press another kids chest against a wall so that he would be unable to breathe, this was done until the kid started passing out then the kid would be released to breathe. This was done as some amateur way of getting high from being light headed as a result of not breathing. This is obvious stupidity, I witnessed this happen sometime around grade 6.

I'm giving away my advanced age, but in the 1970's, we played the game of holding your breath and your friend squeezed your chest really hard until you passed out - and I remember the news talking about how dangerous this type of thing was: I don't remember what year it was in the news.

With the internet, lots more kids now are socializing online, and spend HOURS a day on Tik Tok, and follow those stupid challenges, and as a result, follow the examples of choking themselves out while they are alone.
Back in the day, it was a social thing - that you did with your friends, and if your friends were smart, or cared about you, they would catch you if you passed out, and not let your head hit the edge of the fireplace when you fell.

The only thing I can even relate akin to any “choking game” is what was called a California Headrush- when I was in my mid teens you'd have someone cut off the blood supply to your brain until you momentarily blacked out, and subsequently regained consciousness and everything would come rushing back, but that was with a group of friends doing it for “fun.” Not some kid in his room attaching the rope to a pipe first. Looks intentional almost. Who the hell knows.

There's been so many of these games/challenges, it's astounding how many fall victim to this shit. I'd argue it's mostly teens but I've seen some adults do them too. People will do anything for that validation of Internet strangers, the likes, and reactions. I like it a lot, I've gotten better with this keyboard that has it. I can reply to most things accurately without looking at the keyboard with swiping. It's a pretty quick method of texting, especially since it can be done entirely one handed.

Even as a kid, I think most of us had a decent innate sense for self preservation. Sounds about right, forcing yourself into debt by learning something you can now learn online is pretty dumb anyways. I see people going into university for stuff like mathematics, music production, graphics design, computer science, games development, etc. when there are FULL comprehensive courses for that stuff available online for a tiny fraction of the cost. I went the online route and landed myself a neat job in the relevant field, while the majority of the people I know that went to university are doing absolutely nothing with their degree 😎

I use a site called ‘Udemy', the courses on there are almost always on sale. I started by learning animation and VFX and that's the field I got hired in. Though because it was so cheap and also because it's easy to just learn at your own pace on there I started getting uh… addicted to learning things I guess? Now I have 30+ full-blown courses on my account, most of them I haven't started yet but it feels like my own personal library of knowledge 😄
I've had pretty severe ADHD since I was a kid and I've always been a night owl. For those reasons I thought I hated learning, but it turns out that I just don't like how school/college/university is structured. Waking up early in the morning, sticking to a strict schedule, not being able to pause and rewind the teacher, etc.

Oh wow, very cool. That's a good thing to be addicted to haha. They say knowledge is power. I personally love learning things but like you the way physical classes are setup doesn't jive with me. Also bring able to pause it rewind a lecture is priceless.
