You think it's easy to maintain order in that sort of establishment? The Thai bouncer was bleeding, they cannot let this incident set a precedent and give an impression to others of their weakness. Story: There are two version as to what happened
a. The tourist was scammed and his bill was dubiously padded, he tried to dispute it and the physical altercation ensued
b. The tourist punched a woman while refusing to pay for his friend who dashed
either way it's fucked up

I (obviously) don't know what happened here, but the first thing is one of the most common scams in Thailand when it comes to tourists and go-go bars. It's also pretty common knowledge that if it happens to you you should just pay the bill, leave, and don't go back. The Thais will always stick together and the cops will not give a single shit if the bouncers beat a tourists ass, especially if they say you did something like punched a Thai girl first.
