I put it down to cheap homebrewed vodka induced stupidity and the broad misconception that bulletproof vests are 'bulletproof'.

Share it far and share it wide, even rifle rated armor plates may be pierced by a single bullet under unfavorable conditions and no vest is able to stop the kinetic force of a bullet. It doesn't matter if it stops a round when your internal organs become a mush due to absorbing all the kinetic force of said bullet.

Exactly this

Did it actually pierce the vest? I thought it just knocked the wind out his dumb ass

No available back story, no blood discerned plus video is too short to reach a conclusion.

Even if he survived, he makes a compelling case for why those who somehow manage to make it might also qualify for some sort of an honorary Darwin Award.

He was an ethnic Russian from the break away district of donetsk

I didn't see any blood so it's either this or the bullet lost enough momentum to not go deep enough to cause excessive bleeding. I have see a couple of vids where the bullet was stuck just beneath the skin layer and was stopping the bleeding by itself like a plug.

Why do people feel that in order to test a bulletproof vest that need to be wearing it?

No one test helmets by crashing their motorcycle or test their air bags by driving into a tree...

Conservation of Energy... not just a good idea, it's the law. All that energy's gotta go somewhere... in dipshit's internals was the only option.

Look at the angle of the gun before he fired. My bet is the bullet entered just under the bottom of the vest. Please just put the vest on the ground and shoot it

Forgive me but I couldn’t tell if the bullet went through or not, did it actually pierce his stomach or was he just collapsing from the impact? It sounded like the dude filming laughed at some point which would make sense if his friend just knocked the wind out of himself but I don’t speak Russian so idk what he was actually saying.

Not sure but even if the vest stopped the bullet the impact is still insane and could cause severe internal injuries, especially at point blank range

7.62 Tokarev is spicy for a handgun round, but it shouldn't really cause any internal damage if it was stopped.

Something like a shotgun slug, then you're fucked from the energy dump alone.

This is the third video I have seen on here in like a week of Russians wearing bulletproof vests to test them. Why? Hang it on something and shoot it.

Are these vests designed to stop bullets that close? Or is there a minimum distance

Range should matter much, depending on the rating of the vest and the caliber. 7.62 Tokarev is a better penetrator than most pistol rounds, but nowhere near as good as high velocity rifle rounds. I have some level IV plates that can stop "armor-piercing" .308 rifle rounds.

Yes but I think he means is there a loss of velocity at this range

I am aware. I made a typo, if that helps. I meant that range should not matter much. For a vest to qualify for a IIIA rating, it must be able to stop at least .357 Magnum. Just about any rifle round will penetrate a IIIA vest at any range due to the massive difference in energy.

I do not believe 7.62 Tokarev is as good of a penetrator as .357 magnum, so the distance shouldn't matter much (although they do have similar muzzle energies). If it is rated for .357 magnum, it had better stop 7.62 Tokarev or something is very wrong. Since there are so many different kinds of ammunition, you really need to be on the borders of the ratings of the armor for distance to matter, unless we're talking point blank vs 100+ yards away, in which case something like barrel length might even be more relevant (dependent on caliber).

I also don't know how Russia rates armor, so that could just be cardboard as some reports from Ukraine suggest.
