As of today, @hercule-poirot will be joining the janny team. He knows the rules and he is always helpful, so we're sure that he'll fit right in :marseysatisfied:.

With him on board, you can rest assured that we'll keep the ongoing Tiktok storm under control. Feel free to congratulate him or bully him for becoming a janny, whatever floats your boat :marseypeace:

My inbox and Discord DMs are a deluge of bug reports of videos not loading over the last 10 days or so. We have nearly half a million users and serve tens of millions of requests per month, and the traffic was again becoming overwhelming.

And so we have finished setting up a new server and migrating everything :star: All issues should be resolved now. Please report any further wonkiness or latency issues here.

And, as always, a reminder that WPD runs on a mix of donations (with loads of perks!) and out of pocket expenses. If you'd like to help fund WPD's continued growth and dominance of the gore scene, or if you just want cool digital shit, please do consider donating:

I'm still out of town until Sundayish. Sorry for the lack of comms about this, it's been very time-consuming. Everything should be GREAT now.

New Categories - followup thread

Hi, it’s late and I’m about to go to bed. Per the results of and feedback in the previous thread, I think I’m going to add the following categories tomorrow:

  • Natural Disaster: Exactly what it says on the tin. Floods, tornadoes, volcanoes, wildfires, whatever.

  • Fights: Does not need to include death, but fights are cool to watch. Gay low effort schoolyard fights will be nuked.

  • Near-Death: For those videos you guys love to spam reports on because no one died, they just got horribly maimed or whatever.

  • Photos: Everyone also loves to spam complaints about people who just post pictures of gory shit. This category seeks to resolve that, since there’s obviously an audience for it.

As a reminder, any category can be blocked simply by visiting the category’s main page and clicking “Block /h/categoryname” at the top of the page. This will keep you from having to see content you’re not interested in.

And hey, while I have your attention: WPD has really robust customization settings. If you navigate to the second tab of your settings page and scroll to the bottom of this tab:

https://watchpeopledie.tv/settings/advanced

You can block all threads with any and all keywords of your choosing. Like combat footage but don’t give a shit about Slavs killing each other? Add Russia and Ukraine as filters. Fear of lions? Block everything with the word lion. And so on and so forth.

Getting back to business with WPD this week. It’s been awhile. If you have any qualms with the proposed new categories, speak now or forever hold your peace.

WatchPeopleDie is essential to war crimes prosecutions and rule of law | BBC

Hi there! Bit of a different post from me than the usual update stuff, though some things are being worked on right now which will be unveiled soon. It's summer and I've been busy. Sue me. But I saw this article and felt it warranted some sort of meta-commentary, given the nature of our website.

--

I'll lead by saying that I don't like death and gore videos. I think they provide negative value and do nothing but actively harm those who consume them for some warped sense of fun. Nonetheless, WatchPeopleDie.tv exists because this sort of content is legal under US law and despite that, the tech oligarchy wants very badly to suppress it. I don't believe that unelected corporate interests with San Francisco values should control the Constitutionally-guaranteed free exchange of information, however reprehensible, and so WPD will continue to protect this right of yours purely out of spite.

Now, moving onto the actual article, the BBC of all places actually touches on the harm this Orwellian technocracy does, although in a very niche way, specific to their editorial slant (pro-Ukraine, anti-Russia). And nefarious intent of the article aside, they are actually talking about a very real problem and in turn, they bring up surprisingly valid—positive, even—reasons for WPD's unfettered existence. While the large, world-dominating FAANG platforms sanitize the content they serve beyond usability for all but the most vapid and meaningless topics, this is a double-edged sword and actively harms their other interests. The algorithmic deletion that the article touches on isn't all; the manual moderation memoryholes the subject matter just as effectively.

Assume a Russian war crime gets uploaded to TikTok for some reason. It gets deleted. The soldier or civilian who posted it is dead or taken prisoner, or their device is destroyed in whatever attack did it. If no one saved that video, it is gone. The Chinese certainly aren't going to recover it from their servers, and that's if this was even possible for them to do in the first place. This holds equally true for both sides of the ridiculous Defund The Police/BLM movement. Suppose a bystander to police brutality posts the video to Instagram. Instagram nukes it because it's a black man getting perforated by police. The public then must rely on the questionable release of bodycam footage, which many won't trust because it came from the institution that shot the man and so it could have been tampered with. Or the bodycam may have malfunctioned. Or obstructed. Perhaps the perp was brandishing a gun, or reaching into his waistband, or screaming about how he's going to shoot the responding officers. Or maybe they'll just straight up refuse to release it. And there's the whole inevitable delay, while public discontent simmers and we run the risk of the catastrophic insurrection riots of 2020 all over again.

And as much as I support police, all of this is easily avoided and accountability is maintained, both for law enforcement and the public, with unrestricted access to videographic accounts of incidents. You won't find this on the mainstream platforms because they have no interest in your rights, nor in what is right and wrong, nor anything but marrying their own narrative to delivering to stakeholders.

In closing, yes, while no one is actually on WatchPeopleDie.tv seeking to loftily exercise some rights or hold X or Y party accountable for Z, the platform's existence ensures that all the same. You don't need to want these things, nor do you need to strive for them. Simply put, your very participation in this otherwise-wicked platform does that for you.

So thank you for your continued usage of WPD. Thank you for posting videos. Thank you for commenting videos. Thank you for upvoting videos. Thank you for the gay drawings of our cute cat mascot. Thank you for, to varying degrees, depriving these censorious tech megacorps of some small amount of revenue by spending time here instead of spending time funding them by way of ad impressions.

WatchPeopleDie runs entirely on donations, which offer fun little perks to users who contribute. We do not serve ads, we do not sell data, and we will never do either of these things.
If you'd like to support WPD's continued existence, please consider subscribing, or donating crypto.

Sorry for the downtime!

Our hosting provider's autopay was bugged out so we lost our site for a bit. We just paid so it's fixed now lol.

Sidenote: did you see what's happening in the combat footage parts of Reddit recently? Reddit is now nuking combat videos of basically any Middle Eastern rebel group, including the FSA (which America literally supports, lmao). I don't really know why I'm mentioning this here, but I fucking hate censorcucks. Let a nigga watch a combat video in peace :marseysigh:

Input needed! Are you experiencing the video buffering issue?

I've been hearing several reports about this. The issue is apparently that some videos are taking forever to buffer and just stop some of the way through, and this isn't happening for other sites they go on. I want to get to the bottom of this. So, I want you guys to let me know some things if you're experiencing this as well.

1. Device you're on

2. Browser you're using

3. The videos that it happens on, and ones that it doesn't happen on

Thanks! If you don't feel comfortable sharing all this publicly, shoot me a DM.

Additionally, if any older users know exactly when this started (we know that it was at least a couple months ago), let me know as well.

We did get a takedown request from Denmark about a video but it was basically them asking politely "please sir take this down thanks" and they have no jurisdiction over us so we just decided not to.

And now what you've all been waiting for: a poll!

Ok, so here's the deal. I wanna know if you guys think adding a "famous videos" list to the site would be beneficial. I'd place it below the rules (mockup shown below, if you have a better place to put it let me know). Famous videos would not be allowed to be reposted unless you have a new perspective / higher quality version of the video.

Does this "famous videos" addition sound like a good idea to you?

New mods!

Hey guys, I wanted to announce our two new mods here, @G-tix and @SalaciousWombat. Say hello everyone! :marseywave2:

@G-tix has carte blanche to go ham on reposts as he sees fit (he can do other stuff if he feels like it but that's the main reason I added him), and @SalaciousWombat will just generally help out with moderation here.

Oh yeah, I'm also the new guy in charge now. I won't be as active as clit (given that I have a life that doesn't allow me to shitpost 24/7) but I'll be around. Maybe I'll make a post here and there. Don't expect any drastic changes to how this site’s run from me.

While you guys are here, I'd like to point out a couple helpful features that a lot of you guys seem to miss.

  • Flair blocking. Think cutting yourself is cringe? Do you wanna see people die and nothing else? Well, no worries, my friend, for you can block flairs you don't like! Just go to h/[flair name] (common blocked flairs are /h/social, /h/music, and /h/selfharm), and there'll be a big box near the top that says "Block /h/[flair name]". Click that, and you won't see posts from that flair anymore in your feed.

  • The slur filter. You can disable it by going to https://watchpeopledie.tv/settings/personal and going down to the "Filters" section. Click the toggle next to "Slur replacer" to disable it. The "profanity replacer" doesn't do anything btw, so ignore that if you wanna save the effort of a single click. People keep evading the slur filter for some reason when you can just disable it in a couple clicks.

  • A useful option for the poor people out there who still browse the Internet on their Nintendo DS. It's called "Poor mode", found at the top of https://watchpeopledie.tv/settings/advanced. It does the following: hide cosmetic post awards, hide user signatures, disable site UI animations, and search for emojis in the emoji bar only when you hit "search". I'm sure this'll be handy for a fair few of you.

Anyways yeah, that's about it from me announcement-wise.

Sidenote: can we all agree paywalls fucking suck? I heard krudplug.net now locks like half their shit behind a paywall so I had to check it out, and god damn they're right:

![](/images/16749878777102885.webp)

That's the worst offending page, but jesus christ. They also hid some of their older content too. How do I know? I put some premium links from 2019 into archive.org and I got results back from a couple months ago that still show (and play!) the actual video, non-paywalled. Just a reminder that WPD does not and will not paywall content, that shit is total AIDS.

Clitpeeler

I was told that Clitpeeler resigned from rdrama and "semi-resigned" from wpd?

First let me start by saying I don't give a shit about rdrama, the site barely even exist to me and I can't care less about what they may or may not think of us...

If Clitpeeler feels he needs to step down from whatever his position was with that site then ok whatever that doesn't bother or matter to me..

what does matter to me is this site and this site needs Clitpeeler at the helm......

I don't see why Clit should step down from his position here.

If someone breaks the rules and Clit has to banned them then so be it..

It is what it is.....

It makes absolutely no sense for CLiT to step down over something like this... he did what he is expected to do...

Fuck the drama, and let's move on... lets forget about the BS and get back to doing what we do... let's watchpeopledie

Full guide to using search (since apparently some of you REALLY need this)

Hello, there's a search bar on the top of this webpage. Or, if you're on mobile, it'll be on top if you hit the hamburger button (triple bars) on the top right of your screen.

You can't use it without an account, so people without one, make one and you'll be able to use search. Don't worry, you don't even need an email to sign up here and the process takes like 30 seconds.

This search has some useful features that go under-appreciated by the people here. This post is (mostly) about those.

First though, how search works:

You type a phrase, then WPD searches all posts for a matching title+body (including similar words in your phrase). Say you want to search "russia". The search results will all posts where there's "russia" or a similar word like "russian" in the title or the body (aka description) of the video. The words don't need to be in the order they're typed in search, they can be in all different places of the post and it'll still show up as a result.

For some adjectives, like "chinese" when you search "china", it doesn't work, probably because that's an irregular adjective for nationality. Also, for searching comments, results are a bit stricter, only the word + any plural it may have are returned. So if you search "russian", comments containing "russia" won't be returned, but "russians" will (some weird plurals like "geese" for "goose" don't work but those are rare exceptions).

Now for the less-used (but useful) features:

Search by flair. You do this by typing "flair:theflairyouwant" in your query. Flairs are the thing above the title describing the post, like "Meta", "Shooting", etc. It can easily filter out any results you don't want, especially if your original search is vague. This isn't 100% foolproof however, because some topics (like car accidents) can go under multiple flairs, and many super old posts (>8 months old) don't have a flair at all (yet).

Search by date. You can search before or after a date you want. For searching before a date, use "before:YYYY-MM-DD", and for searching after a date, use "after:YYYY-MM-DD". YYYY is the year you want, MM is the month you want, and DD is the day you want (for months/days below 10, put a 0 before the number for it to work, like "09" for the number 9).

Search by author. Use "author:username" (username being the user want to see the posts of, obviously). This won't work for people who've made their profile private for obvious reasons, so just search without this specification if that's the case and you wanna find one of their posts.

These are all the useful features. The others are either irrelevant or don't work. Hope this was useful to some of you guys,

I made some WPD themed graffiti slaps

Please do pardon the glare.

I made some slaps for the first time in a while, starting to get bored of tagging again, so I decided to make some WPD themed ones.

I put my tag in the corner of each of them just for crediting purposes.

Let me know if you guys want me to keep them or put them up around town, completely fine with doing either.
