I can’t tell what point you’re making lol but everyone just quietly watched him die. It’s too bad no one thought to tell him to lay off his neck and just get people to 4 pt him instead. Those guys just threw away their own lives too.
Edit: I’m reading that he wasn’t charged, but he has to live with this for the rest of his life and it’s on film. That’s life changing for everyone involved.

I edited my comment because I saw you shared more details. I didn’t see the guy before he was restrained, I’m not even giving a bleeding heart argument for him, I just think they were incredibly stupid to not think he would die. It’s foolish of us to think just to think he didn’t get put in jail that his whole entire life changed after this. Every job he gets, people he meets etc this might follow him for the rest of his life. Some people are more resilient than others. Some people suffer from depression and kill themselves, others do fine. It’s still a life altering decision/event.

Why would they think he would die? The guy who had him by the neck is clearly trained in grappling, probably Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Do you know how many times you get choked like this in training? Deaths are exceptionally rare. He wasn't even choking him, he was just controlling him- I think the man in the black clothing is also trained, based on the grip he takes on the dead moron's arms (a Kimura hold). Everyone seemed to be in agreement that "This guy's a problem, we'll all just keep him under control till the cops show up and take care of him."
Just watch, the autopsy will uncover that he had some kind of heart condition, or that he was on a nasty cocktail of drugs (which would explain his frenzied behavior). It wasn't the choke itself that killed him, I'd wager- it was probably a heart attack. The choke wasn't on him nearly long enough to choke him to death. In the beginning of the video, he's not even being properly choked- he's got his head turned into the choking arm, so there's no bloodflow restriction at that moment.
At most, the choke was applied for about 1 minute- and not consecutively, it'd be like 15 seconds of choking, guy squirms out of it and fights for 10 seconds, guy puts the squeeze on again, etc..
Using that technique (sleeper hold, or rear naked choke) on an untrained person, you can put someone to sleep in about 7-15 seconds. If you release them as they pass out, they'll wake up after a few seconds. The danger from these chokes comes from holding onto them for a long time after the guy is passed out. It takes a long time to strangle a person to death.

You are wrong. A trained BJJ player knows that what that guy did is strangle him, not choke him out. Go learn about blood chokes vs strangulation. He had his air blocked for about 3 minutes.

I'm a trained MMA fighter. I'm not great, but I can tell you that the guys in this video were being extremely gentle with the guy, just controlling him. The blonde guy is a skilled grappler, he's choked and been choked many times- he knows how to apply it safely (you actually protect your opponent's trachea when using this technique, because it's a blood-choke, not a wind-choke) and what it feels like when someone goes out. The choke wasn't even being applied throughout the whole video. Again, it would take about 10 seconds to put a man to sleep with that choke. He's thrashing around and shit all the way through the video, finally goes limp while not being choked.
I think the guy's heart gave out on him, from over-exertion and probably drugs or an underlying condition. There's nothing I saw in this video where a healthy young man would suddenly die. It takes a long, long time to strangle someone to death, certainly longer than 2 minutes. After they pass out, you'd have to keep choking- after about a minute, brain damage starts forming, after about 2 minutes you're looking at permanent brain damage. It can take a fucking half hour to fully strangle someone dead, while trying to kill them.
Arteries and veins have a texture much like garden hose. If you pinch it, you can cut off the flow, but as soon as you release it, it pours right through. The arm around the neck was simply a control mechanism. The guy was actually defending against the choke, turning his head to his left into the arm that would be choking him (this alleviates a ton of pressure). So, you'll see the guy sort of settle down as a little blood flow is reduced, then the blonde guy adjusts his arms, and suddenly the frenzied guy is thrashing around again- that split second of full blood-flow was enough to wake him up and send him back into w/e frenzied state he was already in.

People survive disasters and have survivors guilt. I never understood that because I’ve never been in that situation but I always found it strange. It’s funny how many people are downvoting me when it’s a fact that this event changed everyone’s life. He hasn’t been charged YET. It took months for charges to be filed in the Ahmaud Arbery case, and they’re rotting in prison for life.
You gotta understand that a lot of the people on this site have wet dreams about being able to murder a stranger & get away with it, mostly as a result of being saturated in rightwing propaganda…it’s a historical cycle that’s happened over and over again, all over the world.
As long as the justice system continues to hold these psychotic “vigilantes” accountable in a majority of cases, we’ll be okay.
Vigilantes are supposed to kill criminals, not mentally ill unhoused people who don’t present a real threat…even if they do have a long rap sheet full the kind of petty crimes that are inherent to living life on the streets for extended periods of time.
The problem for these edgy rightwing losers is that people generally want to do the right thing, or at least appear to be righteous. So, regardless of their politics, they generally recoil in disgust when they witness a young man slowly asphyxiate an old, mentally ill homeless person over the course of 15 minutes for the crime of being a vaguely-menacing nuisance, while everyone else lets him do it.
It offends the sense of honor to see such a lopsided fight ending in a senseless death, and no amount of vitriolic, bigoted propaganda can change that instinctual response.
