Fatal Shooting Of Timothy Burgess

The Racine County officers who shot and killed Timothy Burgess during a traffic stop on May 22 won't be charged, District Attorney Patricia Hanson announced Monday, July 24.

The Wisconsin Department of Justice investigation revealed "no basis to prosecute."

It started with a call for shots fired in Mount Pleasant on May 21. Police said Burgess fired at his wife, and a child in the home called 911.

Hours later, police tried to pull over a Range Rover and said Burgess ran, hiding in tall grass at Clayton Park.

"You’re going to jail regardless, so you might as well come out now," an officer told Burgess.

Police said Burgess refused to come out, telling officers he was unarmed.

Several uniformed officers responding to a domestic dispute at the 59th Street home of Kevin Colindres, 32, of West New York on June 3, 2022 had their body cameras activated, Platkin said.

Home security cameras in the neighborhood were working, as well.

Bodycam footage video recorded through the front-door window shows Colindres entering the vestibule in a t-shirt and shorts with both hands behind his back.

Suddenly he raises his arms, revealing a gun in each hand. He fires, wounding one of the officers.

Police quickly take up positions.

About 15 minutes later, the heavily-tattooed Colindres emerges from the front door of a neighboring home. He's barefoot and wearing the t-shirt as a head scarf.

Colindres points both guns at police from the front steps, then turns and runs down the sidewalk.

An officer shoots and fatally wounds him.

41-year-old Mark Peter led police on a chase that ended in the crowded El Mezquite Market on 98th St. in northwest Albuquerque.

In June, Peter was found in a car passed out parked at the AutoZone across the street from the market. That’s where the video shows police giving Peter several chances to come out peacefully. Instead, he drove off in his car.

Lapel video shows APD officers using stop sticks to puncture Peter’s tires. Minutes later video shows officers running after him into the El Mezquite Market.

APD says two officers tried to tase Peter, but Peter pulled out a gun and started shooting at them. That’s when officers started shooting at Peter as he shot back.

Store surveillance video showed a bird’s eye view of what happened, and how quickly things escalated.

Several people were at checkout lines when Peter ran inside.

APD says the officers involved made sure to fan out in an almost U-shape. That was to ensure no innocent bystanders were hit.

APD Chief Harold Medina says because of that, no one else was hurt in the market.

“Officers had to make quick decisions, and it was very chaotic with the amount of individuals that are involved, and the fact that they’re taking into account the citizens who are in the location of the subject who was armed and fired,” said Medina.

Fatal shooting by Farmington police of a motorist pulled over due to lack of car registration followed a tense exchange during which the man, Chase Allan, refused to cooperate with responding officers.

He maintained that he did not have to submit to their authority, leading the officers — five ultimately arrived on the scene — to try to forcibly remove him from the car. On seeing a gun, an officer shouted out — “Gun, gun, gun, gun, gun, gun, gun!” — prompting the officers to take a few steps back and start firing, Allan still seated in the auto.

Police say they saw an empty holster on Chase Allan’s right hip and a handgun lying on the driver-side floorboard of the car.
