There is a "Big Three" when it comes to shark attacks and those 3 are great whites, bull sharks, and tiger sharks. Due to them being such large species, they're capable of inflicting serious injuries to a victim, and are commonly found in areas where humans enter the water, and have teeth designed to shear rather than hold. The great white shark stands at the highest amount of shark attacks provoked on humans currently racking up around 354 unprovoked shark attack on human and boats

A shark attack occurred on Thursday 29th December in the east of Mauritius, near Flamingo Island. M.A.J.L., a 39-year-old Mauritian fisherman, was mauled by a shark, and only part of his body was recovered.

The pirogue that M. and four other fishermen were on capsized during the night. The other four managed to swim back to shore

Sharks often don't intend to eat humans, but they will if provoked or confused..sharks are very curious creatures and don't have the greatest eyesight which makes it hard for them to decipher certain figures from another..for example if you're laying on a surfboard with your arms or legs in the water, it may confuse the shark by it thinking you're it's typical prey, seals and such..this isn't tye only reason they may attack, they may simply want to know what you taste like :marseyslurpfast:

CHILD WARNING EFFORTPOST Fargo Tornado of 1957 (CW)

Many thanks to @thresh for giving me the idea. I didn't want to overload you all with words and yapping as I am writing up something for Black Saturday 09 which I have personal experience in.

The Fargo tornado of 1957 was the third in a tornado family to move from Central North Dakota to Central Minnesota. Well known for being the most destructive and violent out of the family, the Fargo Tornado is also known for the deaths of the Munson family children where 6 children in one family were killed. The body of Jeanette is shown below, being carried by the 21 year old Richard Shaw. It was made worse knowing that these children stayed home, unable to escape the violent winds that would soon engulf the home, hiding under the kitchen table. Despite the insistence of their fellow neighbors earlier, they refused to leave, they had prepared a surprise birthday party for their mother. As it happened, Mercedes Munson had asked to get off work early, but the man who was to relieve her was half an hour late. Mercedes Munson was able to reach her 16-year-old daughter on the phone. But then the line abruptly went dead.

This tornado was the cornerstone of tornado research for Dr. Ted Fujita, Fujita would coin the terms “wall cloud”, “tail cloud” and “collar cloud” (NWS, 2019), which are still in use today. Likely if you've heard a series of words like this during tornado season, Fujita was probably the one who created it. He created new ways to research tornadoes such as including aerial photography and the use of satellite images and film. The 1957 Fargo tornado, despite being in an area not familiar to many Americans, was said to be the best documented tornado in history.

EFFORTPOST Radio anchor shot dead during live Facebook broadcast in the Philippines

Story

The gunman gained entry to the home-based radio station of Juan Jumalon, a provincial news broadcaster known also as DJ Johnny Walker, by pretending to be a listener. He then shot him twice during a live morning broadcast in Calamba town in Misamis Occidental province. The assailant shot Jumalon through his mouth. The bullet slug entered the victim's mouth and exited at the back of his head, investigators said. Jumalon's family and police rushed the victim to Calamba District Hospital but the broadcaster was pronounced dead upon arrival. The attacker snatched the victim's gold necklace before fleeing on a motorcycle with a companion who had been waiting outside.

The Philippines has long been regarded as one of the most dangerous places for journalists in the world.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. strongly condemned the shooting and said he ordered the national police to track down, arrest and prosecute the killers.

"Attacks on journalists will not be tolerated in our democracy and those who threaten the freedom of the press will face the full consequences of their actions," Marcos said in a statement. The National Union of Journalists of the Philippines, a press freedom watchdog, said Jumalon was the 199th journalist to be killed in the country since 1986, when democracy returned after a "People Power" uprising toppled dictator Ferdinand Marcos, the father of the current president, and forced him and his family into U.S. exile. "The attack is even more condemnable since it happened at Jumalon's own home, which also served as the radio station," the watchdog said.

A video of the attack shows the bespectacled Jumalon, 57, pausing and looking upward at something away from the camera before two shots rang out. He slumped back bloodied in his chair as a background music played on. The BBC reported that the DJ's wife took him to hospital immediately after the incident, but he was pronounced dead on the way to a hospital.

The attacker was not seen on the Facebook livestream but police said they were checking if security cameras installed in the house and at his neighbors recorded anything. Captain Deore Ragonio, police chief in Calamba municipality, said they were investigating a motive for the killing. They were not aware of any previous threats against Jumalon's life.

"He tackles mostly current events and is not known to have criticized anyone in his broadcasts," Ragonio told AFP.

Jumalon used the name "DJ Johnny Walker" in his Cebuano-language show at the 94.7 Gold FM Calamba station.

His broadcasts were also aired on the station's Facebook page, which has 2,400 followers. A video of the DJ was posted as recently as Oct. 29 on the radio station's Facebook page.

Attacks on journalists in the Philippines

In 2009, members of a powerful political clan and their associates gunned down 58 people, including 32 media workers, in a brazen execution-style attack in southern Maguindanao province. It was the deadliest single attack on journalists in recent history.

While the mass killing was later linked to a violent electoral rivalry common in many rural areas, it also showcased the threats faced by journalists in the Philippines. A surfeit of unlicensed guns and private armies controlled by powerful clans and weak law enforcement in rural regions are among the security concerns journalists face in the poverty-stricken Southeast Asian country.

Despite the Philippines being one of most liberal Asian countries for journalists, Reporters Without Borders (RSF) had said that it is one of the world's deadliest for them, adding that violence against them continued even with the establishment of the Presidential Task Force on Media Security (PTFoMS) in 2016. In its press freedom index for 2022, the country, out of 180 evaluated by RSF, ranks 147th. Prior to that, the 2009 Maguindanao massacre caused the country to be ranked 156th by RSF the following year; 3rd in the Global Impunity Index (GII) since then until 2014, the country's worst; and to be listed as well in that year the world's deadliest for journalists; all by the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ). The country had been on its list of the twenty deadliest from 2007 until being excluded in 2015. In 2018, the country was given a special citation as one of those with an improved ranking. Likewise, the country was reported by the RSF as one of the five deadliest countries for journalists in the world from the mid-2010s until being delisted in 2018. One of the causes is the PTFoMS' immediate action on various cases of killings and threats against the press.

The country, along with five others, has been in the GII since its launch by CPJ in 2008. The index measures deliberate, work-related killings of journalists, beginning from ten years prior. In the 2023 list, the country ranks 8th in terms of impunity in the killings, moving down from 7th in 2019–2022, and 4th in 2015.

Based on the data by the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP), 199 media workers have been killed since 1986, with all deaths included were in relation to their job. The highest number was under the administration of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo with 103; including 32 of those murdered in Maguindanao in what was called the world's worst single attack on journalists, which made the year 2009 the deadliest for them.

Meanwhile, other groups also document such. A data from the CPJ shows 159 killed since 1992; UNESCO reported 117 since 1996, with majority of them having the state's publicized responses to Director General's request for information on judicial follow-up. Both includes the most recent, the death of Juan Jumalon in November 2023.

Prior to Jumalon's death, PTFoMS reported that there were 142 work-related killings, also since 1986.

RSF, on the other hand, documents those considered directly work-related a little less than that by NUJP.

Happened on May 20, 2018, around 4:21 am on Rostovskoye Shosse, Krasnodar, Russia

Stanislav Yeromin (25) decided to go fishing. He went to his neighbors, Dmitriy Isayev (19) and his father Sergey Isayev (40). They got into Stanislavs VAZ-2112 and set off.

At around the same time, Vladislav Anosov, famous dentist and businessman, owner and ordinator of Center for Modern Dentistry DoctorStom (Центр современной стоматологии ДокторСтом) was driving drunk in his Mercedes S-Class. He had a fight with his wife the day before and was drinking heavily. Reportedly he was also being chased by the police.

On Rostovskoye Shosse he reached around 200 km/h. Then he crashed into the back of VAZ driven by Stanislav.

All three men were ejected from the vehicle. Stanislav, who was driving, and Dmitriy, who was sleeping on the back seat, died on spot. Sergey, who was seating in the front, was seriously injured, but he survived. Anosov wasn't even slightly injured.

Mother of Dmitriy, Ludmila Isayeva arrived first on the scene of the accident. Doctors forbidden her telling Sergey that their son had died. All this time, no one was allowed to come near Anosov, he was being guarded by five policemen.

"I asked, why he wasn't taken for a drinking test. They told me, that he refused to take one. They put him on a front seat of a police car, where he was talking on the phone with someone. I think he might be on drugs."

Said Ludmila

According to her, the investigation was almost not existing and Anosov was allowed to have a house arrest.

"Only after we found an attorney, the investigator said, that he was waiting for me."

She told Bloknot Krasnodara she was afraid, that person with a lot of money can avoid responsibility. Also Anosov tried negotiating with victims families through his attorney.

"His attorney called us and offered an agreement. We refused."

Spokesman of local police, Artem Konovalenko, confirmed that Anosov was drunk, when the accident occured and that Mercedes significantly exceeded the speed limit. He didn't confirm that Mercedes was being chased by the police tho.

Sergey, the only passenger that survived, learned about his sons death from the wife of Anosov. She was the first person to contact victims families and she confirmed that her husband got drunk and drove off in his Mercedes after a fight with her.

"About my sons death, I learned from his (Anosov's) wife. I was in a hospital, when she entered the room and told me: You son was buried today. I told her, that I didn't knew he died."

Said Sergey

Ludmila says that the reason for the tragedy may be a conflict on Anosovs family.

Anosov's wife called me and asked for a meeting. When we met, she started crying, begging for forgiveness. She told me it was all her fault, because she started a fight with him. She told me: He wanted to leave the family, but we have four children. He got angry because of this and that's why all this had happened.

In the end, Anosov was sentenced to four years suspended sentence. The court took into account the circumstances: Anosov plead guilty, showed sincere repentance, had four underage children and paid compensations for material and moral damage to the victims.

CHILD WARNING EFFORTPOST The Brutal Killing of Joaquín, an 11 year old Boy from Ecuador [CW]

The Brutal Killing of Joaquín, an 11-Year-Old Boy

September 7, 2023 - Thursday, 11:50 AM

Guayaquil, Ecuador

A group of armed men arrived in two cars and four motorbikes at a repair shop looking to assassinate a rival. They immediately and indiscriminately - using rifles and pistols - opened fire at a group of people standing by the shop. Some managed to take cover inside the houses and shops nearby but many were caught in the crossfire.

Two men and one child died instantly at the scene. The fourth victim died at a hospital. Six were injured, including two young girls.

The target was a man (with a criminal record) who lived 3 houses from the shop, and actually survived the shooting by hiding in the trunk of a car. That's right, the sicarios couldn't even get the address right. The man had been living in that neighborhood for at least 6 years and while people heard he had some criminal history, they didn't consider him a threat.

After the incident, the local police chased after the criminals. Some residents of the 'Ciudad Perdida' and 'Mosquito' sectors even assisted the criminals by placing logs with nails on the streets to prevent police work. One of them fell from his motorbike during the chase and was arrested, but the rest eventually managed to escape on a boat that was waiting for them in Estero Salado (a estuary).

Full video of the shooting:

Who was Joaquín?

Joaquín was an 11-year-old boy, who according to his grandma was "a restless but loving boy". He loved to stay just outside the house next to the shop socializing. He was on the fifth year of Basic Education (Ecuadoran education system).

Joaquín's was the youngest and the only boy of a family of 5 children and a single mom. Three of his older sisters have mental disabilities, and his mother Maria, was hoping Joaquin was going to eventually help support the family and his sisters.

The Killing of Joaquín

That morning after returning from school, Joaquin changed out of school uniform and went outside to buy a couple of soda drinks, one for his disabled sister and one for himself. His grandma asked him to stay inside and take a nap but Joaquin refused and went outside to finish his soda.

And just as we has sitting down on the sidewalk, the criminals arrived shooting indiscriminately, Joaquin was immediately struck as he was trying to run away and died instantly. In total, he was shot 37 times 32 from 9mm handguns and 5 from .223 rifles.

Joaquín was waked at the home of his relatives and was buried on September 9, 2023, in a cemetery north of the town.

What his family said after the tragedy

His mother Maria:

Everything has been difficult for me, first it was my eldest daughter, then the next one. The third, thank God, has no problems, but the fourth also suffers from disabilities. With Joaquín's death they took away my hope of giving his sisters a better future.

His grandma Liliana:

He didn't listen to me, he went to the store to buy two 25 cent sodas, one for himself and one for his older sister. Then he sat on the sidewalk and it was just at that moment that this massacre took place that took our child away from us.

His uncle Alex:

My nephew's body was destroyed, his internal organs, his little head, it was heartbreaking, they acted mercilessly, viciously, they didn't care that he was a child, for God's sake. Why so much evil. He was beginning to live.

RIP Little Joaquín

CHILD WARNING EFFORTPOST Newborns with deformities [1-8] + Infos

Baby Born With Intenstines And Heart Outside Body

This is an incredible case of ectopia cordis and omphalocele in a single case! The video shows the heart breathing outside the chest cavity, a condition called Ectopia cordis. This results from a failure of proper maturation of midline mesoderm and ventral body wall formation during embryonic development. The ectopic heart might be found in different anatomical locations such as neck, chest, or abdomen. In most cases, such as the one shown, the heart protrudes outside the chest through a split sternum. Omphalocele is a rare abdominal wall defect in which the intestines protrude through a hole is in the middle of the abdomen, right where the belly button would be. The intestines are covered only by a thin layer of tissue and can be easily seen. It is a type of hernia. The muscles in the abdominal wall (umbilical ring) do not close properly. As a result, the intestine remains outside the abdominal wall. In addition, these babies are often diagnosed with ascites, pleural effusions, a diahragmatic hernia and ventricular septal defect. The poor prognosis in such cases is related to the other associated malformations, complex cardiac abnormalites or difficulty returning the heart back into a small thoracic cavity.

The infant was not normal. As a matter of fact, he looked very far from it. As you can see in video, the unnamed baby was born with bulging eyes, incredibly thick and dense skin, and more alarming, a lack of an upper skull with the child's brain being exposed. When Khalida finally got the boy to a set of doctors, they diagnoses him with Harlequin ichthyosis. The condition causes the organs to fail or develop wrong, and it turns the flesh very hard and thick. With a diagnosis in hand, Mom is learning to accept her child.

EFFORTPOST Kiss nightclub fire
Context:

The Kiss nightclub fire, one of the most devastating tragedies in Brazilian history, occurred in the early hours of January 27, 2013, in Santa Maria, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. This catastrophic event resulted in the loss of 242 lives and left at least 630 people injured. The incident unfolded at a freshers' ball organized by students from the Federal University of Santa Maria (UFSM), with most victims aged between 18 and 30 years.

https://i.watchpeopledie.tv/images/1708336882562271.webp

What contributed to this happening:

The fire was ignited by a pyrotechnic device, similar to a signaling flare, used by the band Gurizada Fandangueira during their performance. The pyrotechnics accidentally set alight the flammable acoustic foam in the ceiling of the nightclub. Contributing to the high number of casualties was the lack of emergency exits; the club only had one main entrance and exit, leading to a deadly crowd crush as people attempted to escape. Colonel Guido Pedroso de Melo of the Rio Grande do Sul Fire Department reported that the club's front door was locked, trapping the victims inside.

The fire started and the band soon after a few minutes noticed the fire and all the people panicked. Many people were trampled to death as they tried to flee, But the vast majority confused the exit door with the bathroom, due to the only light there was in the middle of the darkness of the place and all that smoke. Piles of charred bodies were forming in the bathroom. The burning foam released cyanide, which rendered those young people unconscious and killed them. Whoever entered the bathroom thinking it was the way out, couldn't get out, and then died there... The Kiss nightclub had not been inspected since 2012 and the fire extinguishers were broken, empty and in some places there were no extinguishers.

Television coverage on the day of the incident:

Television coverage made on the day of the incident, where the reporter talks about many people being prevented from leaving due to the very narrow exit, which resulted in people being trampled and suffocated inside. It is possible to see survivors trying to help firefighters remove people who were unable to get out. Later survivors of the fire stated that security guards tried to block the public from leaving during the fire until they were knocked down by the crowd. Those in the VIP wing had a better chance of survival because the location was closer to the exit.

Video taken on the day of the accident, probably made by a survivor lasting 9 minutes, showing the Aftermath:

Condolences and my solidarity with the relatives of the victims and survivors of this tragedy. The whole of Brazil still does not believe that this has happened. There were 242 lives taken, 242 destinations interrupted, 242 families that cry to this day. May this never happen again.
And may the culprits be duly punished.

EFFORTPOST The Burning Monk - first self-immolation ever recorded on video - 1963 -

My Original edit

Thich Quang Duc was born in 1897 in Hoi Khanh, a village located in central Vietnam, Khanh Hoa province. Fragmentary information on his life is known only from Buddhist literature. Coming from a large family, he had six siblings. He was born as Lam Van Tuc (Lâm Văn Tức in Vietnamese). He entered a Mahayana Buddhist monastery when he was seven. He became a monk at the age of twenty under the name Thich Quang Duc. In 1932, he was appointed an inspector and was over time responsible for the building of 14 temples. In 1934, he moved to southern Vietnam and became a teacher. He also spent two years in Cambodia. After that, he began to oversee the construction of further temples. In total, he was responsible for 31 new temples. In 1943, he moved to Saigon where he worked as the chairman of a panel on ceremonial rites. In the following years, he became one of the leading spiritual figures of Vietnamese Buddhism.

In the beginning of the 1960s, religious tension in South Vietnam (Republic of Vietnam) had escalated. A predominantly Buddhist country was ruled by the authoritative and Christian president Ngo Dinh Diem (Ngô Đình Diệm in Vietnamese). Rampant corruption, favouring Roman Catholics for public service, and disregard of the president for Buddhist traditions had sparked street clashes in Saigon, leaving nine protesters dead after the violent crackdown in May 1963. The Buddhist reaction took the form of a shocking protest that built on an older tradition, cases of self-immolation having been previously recorded in Vietnam and also in China. On 10 June 1963, American journalists in Saigon were notified that something unspecified would happen in front of the Embassy of Cambodia the next day. The Buddhists probably chose the place because of the then tense relations between Cambodia and South Vietnam. Since the Buddhists had been protesting against the ruling regime for a long time already, only several journalists arrived, including The New York Times correspondent David Halberstam and the Associated Press photographer Malcolm W. Browne.

According to Halberstam, several hundred Buddhist monks, who left the main Saigon pagoda around 10 a.m. on 11 June 1963, marched into the busy junction. A blue Austin Westminster sedan led the March. At the junction, Thich Quang Duc got out of the car accompanied by two monks. One of them laid a cushion on the street and Duc sat down on it in the lotus position. The other took a five-gallon petrol can out of the boot and poured the petrol over Duc. Duc then recited a short mantra used by Buddhists to calm their mind. Then he struck a match and set himself on fire. He burst into flames immediately. The on-looking crowd chanted slogans, some cried, some bowed to the burning monk. After ten minutes, the lifeless body fell to the ground. When the flames went out, one of the monks repeated into a microphone again and again, first in Vietnamese and then in English: “A Buddhist priest burns himself to death. A Buddhist priest becomes a martyr.” The monks carried Duc's remains away to bury them. According to tradition, the heart remained intact after the cremation and was venerated as a relic. Also because of this, Duc has been revered by Vietnamese Mahayana Buddhists as bodhisattva, someone who has achieved enlightenment (many other Buddhists reject his act as incompatible with the teachings of Buddha).

Duc stressed in a farewell letter that he decided to immolate himself in order to press President Diem to establish religious tolerance. He wrote that self-immolation is a sacrifice for Buddhism. The regime leadership proclaimed that the event was a conspiracy of Cambodia and local communists. At the end of June 1963, the government announced that Duc had been drugged before his self-immolation. The First Lady also provoked outrage when she cynically wrote in a letter to The New York Times that she “would clap hands at seeing another monk barbecue show.” Religious tension did not defuse in the following weeks, and three more monks immolated themselves in August 1963. Eventually, president Diem, who gradually lost the support of the United States, was overthrown and killed on 2 November 1963.

Duc's protest drew a strong response not only in South Vietnam but also in other countries, thanks to the American journalists. A picture of the burning monk taken by Brown won the 1963 World Press Photo of the Year award, and Brown himself won a Pulitzer prize in 1964. Self-immolation in South Vietnam, interpreted as a part of the struggle against American imperialism, was often covered by the official media in communist countries. Paradoxically, this form of political protest became an inspiration for a number of people in the Soviet bloc. At present, there is a street named after Duc in the Vietnamese capital of Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon). A monumental memorial has been erected not far from the place where he performed his radical protest

Jeffrey James Weise, born August 8 1988.

It seems that many people knew Jeff Weise, but few knew him well. He was described as a loner, although this is not true since he had some friends, students say that he was sometimes bullied, but as he was tall and strong, they only attacked him with words, Jeff rarely responded to the provocations. Jeff was always wearing black clothes and drawing skulls and swastikas in his notebooks and he contributed to racist websites. Jeff hadn't been to school for several months. He was expelled for violating school rules and was in a program that offered in-home tutoring. Some people remembered him as quiet, friendly and non-threatening, others said they were afraid of him. Ashley Morrison says she and her friends thought Jeff was "weird".

"We always suspected he would do something, but nothing like this." It seems like everyone remembers Jeff Weise as an introvert. Wanda Baxter had him as a student in her traditional culture class in Red Lake two years ago. She said he was quiet, never a troublemaker “He was a good listener".

https://i.watchpeopledie.tv/images/170804042240807.webp https://i.watchpeopledie.tv/images/17080404241573634.webp

Jeff had grown up with a difficult and disrupted family life; his parents were a young unmarried couple who separated before he was born. His mother, Joanne Weise, was 17 years old at the time of his birth. Joanne's family insisted that she give up her son to the father, Daryl Lussier Jr., who lived with his parents and family in Red Lake. Jeff did not live with his mother again until after he was two years old, when she reclaimed him and took him to live in Minneapolis. In later online postings, Weise wrote that his mother was an alcoholic and was sometimes physically and emotionally abusive. In 1992, his mother began dating a man who allegedly also abused Jeff. After having two children, the couple married on June 27, 1998. Weise moved around often because of his mother, and attended several different schools during his adolescence. In 2002, Weise was forced to repeat the eighth grade because of failing grades and truancy. In 1997, when Jeff was eight years old, his father died by suicide aged 32, shooting himself after a days-long standoff with Red Lake tribal police. Weise's grandfather, Daryl Lussier Sr., was a sergeant with the tribal police and was involved in the standoff. Two years later, his mother was in an alcohol-related car accident and suffered severe brain damage. She had to be committed to a nursing home for rehabilitation. Jeff was placed in the custody of his paternal grandmother, having to leave Minneapolis, where he had lived most of his life, to live with her and other paternal relatives on the Red Lake reservation.

Jeff became close to his paternal grandfather and his younger companion, Michele Sigana, who had given him his own room with them. The family said he had a good relationship with both. In 2000, his mother and her husband separated; they completed the divorce in May 2004. Their custody arrangements covered only the children they had together, and not Weise. By 2003, his mother had moved to an assisted-living facility; she had recovered enough from her accident to work part-time, and had regained speech. Jeff chose to stay with his grandmother rather than rejoin his mother and move again.

Jeff was discovered to have been quite active on the Internet. According to "The Smoking Gun", Weise created two violent Flash animations for the flash website Newgrounds, using the alias "Regret". One animation, entitled "Target Practice", features a character who murders three people with a rifle, blows up a police car with a grenade, and kills a Klansman. The 30-second animation ends with the shooter putting the gun in his mouth and pulling the trigger. Weise had created another Flash animation, entitled "Clown", in which a clown kills a man by eating his head. A LiveJournal account, apparently created by Weise, contained three entries posted between December 2004 and January 2005. The weblog was customized to be rendered in black and white. In his posts, Weise expressed his desire for change and salvation in his life.

:sniper: Target Practice animation made by Jeff:

On one occasion, he fought with a pupil whom he referred to as a "Communist". He also alleged that the school was warned that someone was going to "shoot up" the school on April 20, the birthday of Adolf Hitler and the anniversary of the Columbine High School massacre, and that the school authorities "pinned" the threat on him.

Later Weise was found to have posted numerous online comments expressing his frustration with living in Red Lake, and feelings that his life was beyond his control. He described the reservation "as a place where people 'choose alcohol over friendship', where women neglect 'their own flesh and blood' for relationships with men, where he could not escape 'the grave I'm continually digging for myself'". His depression led him to attempt suicide in May 2004, when he cut his wrist. He changed his mind, deciding "this was not the path", and posted his thoughts on the website Above Top Secret: 𝙄 𝙝𝙖𝙙 𝙬𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙝 𝙖 𝙡𝙤𝙩 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙨 𝙞𝙣 𝙢𝙮 𝙡𝙞𝙛𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙝𝙖𝙙 𝙙𝙧𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙣 𝙢𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙖 𝙙𝙖𝙧𝙠𝙚𝙧 𝙥𝙖𝙩𝙝 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙣 𝙢𝙤𝙨𝙩 𝙘𝙝𝙤𝙤𝙨𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙩𝙖𝙠𝙚. The day of the shooting, Jeff retrieved a Ruger MK II .22 caliber pistol from his bedroom and fatally shot his grandfather as he was sleeping; he shot him two times in the head and ten times in the chest. According to Weise's friends, the teenager may have had the gun for as long as a year. He took Lussier's two police-issue weapons, a .40 caliber Glock 22 pistol and a 12 gauge Remington 870 pump-action shotgun, a gun belt and a bulletproof vest. Weise then fatally shot Sigana, his grandfather's girlfriend, two times in the head as she carried laundry up the stairs.

Jeff then drove his grandfather's squad car to Red Lake Senior High School, arriving at around 2:45 p.m. CST. As he entered the school through the main entrance, he encountered two unarmed security guards manning a metal detector. Weise shot and killed security guard Derrick Brun with the shotgun, while the other security guard escaped without injury. Weise proceeded into the main corridor of the school.

Jeff began shooting into an English classroom, killing three students and one teacher, and wounding three students. One student said that Chase Lussier (no direct relation to Weise's father or grandfather) sheltered her, and was one of those shot and killed by Weise. Jeffrey May, a 16-year-old sophomore, tried to wrestle Weise inside the classroom and stabbed him in the stomach with a pencil. May's diversion allowed students to flee the classroom to safety, but Weise shot him two times in the neck and once in the jaw, leaving him seriously injured.

Witnesses said Weise smiled as he was shooting at people. One witness said that he asked a student if he believed in God. This is believed to have been a reference to a widely publicized exchange during the 1999 Columbine High School massacre between perpetrator Dylan Klebold and Columbine survivor Valeen Schnur.

At around 2:52 p.m., Jeff returned to the main entrance, where he killed two students and wounded two others. The police had arrived quickly and engaged him in gunfire. FBI Special Agent Paul McCabe said the shootout lasted for about four minutes. None of the police officers were injured. After being hit three times in the lower back, right leg, and right arm by police gunfire, Weise retreated to the classroom where he had shot and killed the teacher and students. Remaining students in the class witnessed him lean against a wall, put the shotgun barrel to his chin, and fired, killing himself.

The shootings lasted nine minutes. Jeff fired a total of 59 shots during the shooting spree, 14 at his grandfather's home and 45 at the school. He fired 37 rounds from his grandfather's Glock handgun, 14 from his Ruger handgun, and eight from the shotgun.
