California Woman Livestreamed Dying Teen Sister on Instagram After Car Crash
Obdulia Sánchez, 18, has been arrested in California on suspicion of causing a fatal car crash that was recorded live on Instagram.
A California woman is in custody after allegedly livestreaming a fatal car crash on Instagram that killed her 14-year-old sister and injured another teen.
Obdulia Sánchez, 18, was booked into the Merced County Jail on suspicion of DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated after Friday's crash, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Sánchez was behind the wheel of a 2003 Buick when the vehicle veered onto the right shoulder of the road, according to the California Highway Patrol. Police said it is unclear how fast Sánchez was driving.
She over-corrected, causing the vehicle to swerve across lanes, crash through a wire fence and overturn into a field, the authorities said.
The two 14-year-olds were not wearing seat belts and were ejected from the car during the crash, officials said.
In a statement, the California Highway Patrol said it is aware of the possibility of "video evidence located on social media" and is investigating.
Part of the livestream shows Sánchez outside the car with what appears to be her sister Jacqueline's body. The other teen can be seen attempting to wave down help.
DIALOG:
“I f-----g killed my sister, OK? I know I'm going to jail for life,” Sánchez says in the video. “This is the last thing I wanted to happen, OK? I don't f-----g care though, I'm going to hold it down. Rest in peace, sweetie. If you don't survive, I am so f-----g sorry.”
Sergio Ramos Estrada, a cousin, told NBC News the teens were preparing for a Quinceañera — a special 15th-birthday celebration — when the accident happened.
“We were going to go to her house the next day to celebrate her Quinceañera and unfortunately that happened,” Ramos Estrada said. The CHP is examining the video as part of the investigation.
HER FINE
Sánchez is currently being held on a $300,000 bond at the John Latoracca Correctional Facility in Merced.

WHAT REALLY MAKES ME MAD IS THE LACK OF URGENCY WITH THE POLICE
Ernakulam : The family has accused the police of the death of a young man due to a rope tied by the police on the road during traffic control as part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Kochi. Chippi, the sister of deceased Manoj Unni, told ETV Bharat that the police are saying that her brother was drunk to cover up the fall. A blood test conducted at the hospital did not detect the presence of alcohol.
The young man's family says that his brother has no habit of drinking and the allegation that he was drunk and driving is false. This is the first time the brother has been involved in an accident. The reason for the accident was that the police could not see the rope tied on the road. Chippy said that if the police had tied at least one ribbon on this rope, he would not have lost his brother.
The police who provide security to important persons should also consider the lives of common people. Chippy said that if the rope is tied across the road, anyone will be in danger. She said that the ribbon was tied on the rope after the locals protested and there was a lack of light at the place where the accident happened.
Meanwhile, the police denied the family's allegation. The police said that the traffic was stopped by tying a rope as part of security measures and this is a normal procedure. Kochi City Police Commissioner S Shyam Sundar said that Manoj did not stop despite the police officers assigned at the place showing their hands. The accident victim was speeding. He also clarified that it will be possible to say whether he was drunk only after getting the test results.
The City Police Commissioner also informed that the CCTV footage of the accident will be collected and examined. Meanwhile, the body of Manojin, who died in the accident, was shifted from a private hospital to the Ernakulam General Hospital. The post-mortem will be completed and the house will be given to the relatives.
Manoj Unni, a scooter rider from Vadutala, died after being entangled in a rope tied by the police on the road as part of the security preparations for the Prime Minister's visit to Kochi. Manoj was seriously injured as the rope got stuck around his neck and was taken to the hospital but he died during the treatment. The accident happened around 10 pm on Sunday.
Access to MG Road from other roads was restricted as part of safety precautions. As part of this, the entry from Brother Ayyappan Road to MG Road was blocked by a rope. Manoj, who was speeding on a two-wheeler, got entangled in this rope and fell on the road.
The police explained that Manoj Unni met with the accident when he continued without stopping despite showing his hand. The police took Manoj Unni to the hospital. But Manoj died at 1.30 am while undergoing treatment. There have been several accidents in the past involving cables on the road. But for the first time, an accident occurred when the rope tied by the police got stuck on the road and one person died.

The family of 38-year-old Rakesh Ramnarine are still trying to wrap their heads around the loss of their family member and friend, who was killed on Monday when one of his truck tyres exploded.
Newsday visited the family in Cap-de-Ville, Point Fortin, and spoke to Ramnarine's cousin Venoode Maharaj.
Ramnarine's mother, Indrawattie Ramnarine, was unable to speak to the media at the time, as she was overcome with grief. His common-law wife Meera was not present, as she was seeing about the paperwork needed for his burial.
Maharaj said Ramnarine, who celebrated his birthday on September 19, was a decent, loving person.
“He's my older cousin by a couple years. He was one of the most generous, loving persons you could know. If he had a single dollar remaining to give somebody or help somebody, he would have done it."
"He never used to get vexed with you, he never used to cause confusion or anything, he never used to be angry."
“Normally all the cousins would get together and get a cake and go camping down by Iros Bay for his birthday, but we didn't get to do it this year."
"We both went to Cap-de-Ville Primary School and Cedros Comprehensive. He was a very loving person who would always look out for me."
Around 9 am on Monday, Ramnarine stopped on the Eastern Main to repair a damaged line on his truck. He went into Satyavi's Hardware & Electronics to ask for a screwdriver, and five minutes after he left the store, an explosion was heard.
Video footage from the store showed Ramnarine reaching under the truck, between two of the rear tyres, when there was an explosion. When the smoke cleared, the tyre was shredded and Ramnarine was found lying between the truck and the pavement. He was alive but later died of internal injuries.
The truck, which was later removed to the Sangre Grande police station, belonged to construction company Namalco Group. Maharaj said the company had been assisting the family since the tragedy.
