On 7 December 2012, a man beheaded his younger sister in public, with a sword. He then walked to the Nadial police station with his sister's head and the sword. Scores of residents looked on in horror as he walked to a police station with the head in his left hand and the sword in his right, dripping blood all along the way. The police said the man asked to be charged and that he confessed to killing his sister for an extra-marital relationship.

“It was not the decision of the family to kill her. The brother had lost his temper over his sister and had unilaterally decided to kill her,” the DC (Port) said.

Alam was today remanded to judicial custody till December 22 after his production in Alipore court.

This film is derived from footage taken by Japanese filmmaker Akira Iwasaki and produced by the U.S. Department of War in 1946. Much of the material in the film was originally part of a somewhat triumphant, official government film released as ‘A Tale of Two Cities' (Hiroshima and Nagasaki). In 1968, visionary filmmaker Eric Barnouw learned (via a letter from environmental activist Lucy Lemann) that a great deal of the footage in that movie was shot by a Japanese filmmaker Akira Iwasaki. In fact, Iwasaki visited Hiroshima and Nagasaki immediately after the attack, and filmed much of the immediate aftermath. His footage remained hidden from view for decades, however, as it could prove politically damaging to the U.S. - Japanese alliance (and for other reasons). After a great deal of work, Barnouw managed to obtain the suppressed footage from the National Archives and then created this short film with Paul Ronder. It remains one of the most chilling documents from the atomic bombings.

A brief, but graphic, video on social media seemingly showing South African soldiers complicit in burning bodies has drawn the comment “despicable” from the SA National Defence Force (SANDF) with an investigation underway.

The senior SANDF corporate communication officer, Brigadier General Andries Mahapa, reacted to the video saying it “depicts the SANDF and other unknown defence force members engaging in activities against the law of armed conflict”.

He continues: “The SANDF was recently made aware of a video clip circulating on social media depicting members in a yet unidentified defence force uniform throwing deceased bodies in a pile of burning rubble as well as SANDF member(s) standing around watching them”.

The incident is believed to have happened last November in Mozambique, “where South Africa has committed forces as part of the SADC (Southern African Development Community) Mission in Mozambique (SAMIM)”.

“Once forces are committed, they form part of a combined force and fall under the command and control of SAMIM. South Africa only supports their mission logistically.

“The SAMIM Force Commander (Major General Xolani Mankayi) is conducting an investigation surrounding the involvement of its members in this despicable act.

“The SANDF does not condone in any way the acts committed in the video and those who are found guilty of such acts will be brought to book,” the statement has the one-star saying.

South Africa's Law of Armed Conflict (LOAC) Manual states “the dead must be protected and taken care of” and “maltreatment of dead bodies” is a breach of the law of armed conflict and a war crime.

It is not clear from which countries the soldiers in the video are from, but the uniforms appear to be Mozambican, with possibly troops from Botswana and Lesotho as well as the South African flag on a sleeve visible as well.

BHOPAL: Blinded by superstition, a former janpad panchayat member and a local Congress worker beheaded his six-year-old daughter to propitiate a deity in Seoni district of Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday afternoon (10 September, 2013).

"For the past few days, I was having regular dreams about a goddess who asked me to sacrifice someone close to me. Even today, while I slept in the afternoon, I saw the same dream. When I woke up my daughter was playing beside me. I understood it as a divine instruction and followed it," accused told police officers.

The incident took place at Turga village and a case for murder was registered at the Keolari police station.

M A Quereshi in charge of Keolari police station told TOI, "Accused Santlal Irpache, 35, beheaded his daughter Ritu, 6, in front of a deity on the village outskirts. He took the girl to a sacred place outside the village and asked her to bow down before the goddess. As soon as the girl bowed down the accused attacked her with an axe and severed her head with two blows", Quereshi said.

"We have recovered the axe from the spot."

"The man has no remorse over the act. When he was asked about the crime and future of his family, he simply said that goddess will take care of them," Quereshi added.

BHOPAL: A 35-year-old former member of janpad panchayat beheaded his 6-year-old daughter offering her as sacrifice to a deity in Seoni district of Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday.

The incident took place at Turga village under Keolari police station of the district.

Keolari police station incharge, M A Quereshi said, "Accused Santlal Irpache beheaded his only daughter Ritu Irpache, 6, at a place of worship".

"The head of the girl was completely severed from her remaining body. She was wearing new clothes and was having mehndi in her hands. It seems that the accused lured the girl in name of taking her to some place of worship and brought her to the spot where he beheaded her," Quereshi said.

We have arrested the accused and send the body for postmortem," he added.

"At first instance it is clearly evident to be a case of human sacrifice, the villagers have informed that the accused is former member of janpad panchyat," he said.

He executed the crime at around 1am in the afternoon after taking her daughter to a religious place situated outside the village in a desolate area, he said.

"We are yet to ascertain the exact reasons for which he sacrificed his daughter," Quereshi said.

It is weird that narabali, meaning human sacrifice, is still practiced in the 21th century in some rural areas of India. And so is its worst form- child sacrifice. In superstition, the soul is believed to be inside the brain, human blood is regarded to be able to make the land have a better harvest, and children are considered to be "purer" than adults. Therefore, incidents of chopping off young children's heads are not very rarely heard in human sacrifice news reports.

On June 8, 2019, a 48-year-old farmer Chintamani Majhi hacked off his 11-year-old nephew Dhansing Majhi's head on the farm at Jadamunda village under the Komna police limits in Nuapada district, Odisha. Dhansing Majhi along with his brother had gone to the farmland at around 11 am when the culprit Chintamani Majhi lured Dhansing to his field and struck off the nephew's head with a billhook. Dhansing's brother, who was watching the incident from a distance, screamed for help and villagers gathered at the spot. On intimation, the police reached the farm and arrested the accused. Chintamani confessed that he sacrificed his nephew for Choru, a local term referring to sacrifice offered to deities for bountiful harvest before the start of the new cropping season.

Unlike Jamui's Saurabh, Dhansing had a pain death, as part of the skin of his back head was also hacked off.

Unfortunately, there was another child sacrifice case in the same police limits of Komna in 2017. The victim was an 8-year-old girl.

A father decapitated his eight-year-old daughter with an axe after a sorcerer told him it would save his troubled marriage.Police arrested father-of-four Ramacharan Paharia after they found his daughter Jamuna's headless body in Odisha, India.

Officers claim he consulted a sorcerer who suggested he sacrifice his daughter from his first marriage to stop his second wife from abandoning him. Komna: In a shocking incident, a man beheaded his eight-year-old daughter after being convinced by a sorcerer to fulfil his wish to retain a wife. The accused, Ramchan Paharia, 36, was produced in a court for murder. The court remanded him in custody after rejecting his bail pleas, IIC Tapan Kumar Mahanand said.

The incident was reported from Dhakunpani, a remote village surrouned by Sunabeda sanctuary, 60-km from Komna police station in Nuapada district.

Ramchan, son of Jayram Paharia and Kosmibai, had married a girl of the village 17 years back. However, within a month of marriage, his wife deserted him. After a year, he married another woman through whom they had a daughter, Jamuna, 8. However, the second wife also eloped with a youth of the village.

Ramchan who did not lose hope, married a third time. This time, however, the couple gave birth to two sons. His wife did not like her step-daughter Jamuna which led to bickering between the couple. Apprehending, his wife might desert him, Ramchan approached a sorcerer.

The witch doctor, reportedly, advised him to sacrifice Jamuna. Then, naïve Ramchan hatched a plan to eliminate Jamuna. Accordingly, he took the girl to a forest where he beheaded her with an axe.

On learning about the incident, locals caught hold of Ramchan and beat him up before calling the police. Ramchan then confessed to killing Jamuna for fear of losing his wife. Investigations are underway.

The trial of Oscar Pistorius for the murder of Reeva Steenkamp and several gun-related charges (The State vs Oscar Pistorius) in the High Court of South Africa in Pretoria opened on 3 March 2014. Pistorius was a leading South African runner who won attention as an athlete with a disability competing at a high level, including at multiple Paralympic Games and the 2012 Summer Olympics. Steenkamp, a model, had been Pistorius's girlfriend for three months. In the early morning of Thursday, 14 February 2013, Steenkamp was shot and killed by Pistorius at his Pretoria home. Pistorius acknowledged that he shot Steenkamp, but he said that he mistook her for an intruder. Pistorius was taken into police custody and was formally charged with murder in a Pretoria court on 15 February 2013. The entire trial was broadcast live via audio, and parts of the trial were also broadcast live via television.

On 11–12 September 2014, judge Thokozile Masipa delivered a verdict that Pistorius was not guilty of murder but guilty of the culpable homicide of Steenkamp and reckless endangerment with a firearm.

On 21 October 2014, he was sentenced to a maximum of five years for culpable homicide with a concurrent three-year suspended prison sentence for reckless endangerment.

Pistorius was released on parole on 19 October 2015 after serving one sixth of his sentence. The state appealed the conviction, and in December 2015 the Supreme Court of Appeal overturned the conviction for culpable homicide, finding him guilty of murder instead.

On 6 July 2016, Masipa sentenced Pistorius to six years in prison for murder. The state appealed again, this time for a longer sentence. The Supreme Court of Appeal then imposed a sentence of 15 years – with the time he had already served reducing the time to an additional 13 years and five months.
