Suspect pointed gun at officers in patrol vehicle before police shooting

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police said that two officers were at an apartment complex near Eastern and the 215 when a man confronted them with a gun.

The shooting happened Sept. 17 around 7:30 p.m. Police said the suspect, Steven Trovato, didn’t say anything but pointed the gun at officers while they were still in their patrol car.

The officers fired at Trovato, chased him on foot and fired again.

Police said the suspect was hit in the arm and remained at University Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said Trovato’s gun didn’t fire and no officers or bystanders were injured.

At approximately 2:30 a.m. on June 26, 2022, a New Franklin police officer attempted to pull over a vehicle owned by Walker, because the car had a broken taillight and a missing license plate bulb. The driver failed to stop and drove at speeds approaching 50 mph on city streets before crossing the Akron city line, at which point the pursuing officer ended the less-than-three-minute chase.

According to the Akron Police Department, at about 12:30 a.m. on June 27, 2022, police in Akron, Ohio, attempted to stop Walker for a traffic violation on unspecified equipment failure. Walker did not stop and a chase ensued. According to the pursuing officers, gunfire came from the vehicle less than a minute into the chase. After several minutes, Walker exited the highway and the chase continued along city streets.

Eventually, Walker's car slowed down, and while the car was still moving, Walker exited from the passenger's side, wearing a ski mask, and ran towards a nearby parking lot. Officers chased Walker and attempted to stop him with a stun gun but were not successful. After about ten seconds of chasing Walker, eight police officers opened fire for six or seven seconds, shooting approximately 90 rounds. Police said that it appeared Walker was turning towards them, and they believed he was armed and "moving into a firing position".

Following the shooting, Walker was put in handcuffs by police and was found with his hands cuffed behind his back when EMTs arrived on the scene. According to police, officers attempted to administer first aid to Walker after he was shot. Walker was pronounced dead at the scene. No firearm was found on Walker's body. The Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office has ruled his death a homicide.

On July 15, 2022 the medical examiner released autopsy results. Walker's body was hit with 46 bullets in total, and the toxicology report showed that no drugs or alcohol were present in his system.

Police recovered a pistol, a loaded magazine, and an apparent wedding ring on the driver's seat of Walker's car. A bullet casing that police say is consistent with the recovered pistol was found in the area where police say Walker fired.

Eight officers who opened fire were placed on administrative leave following standard protocol in a police shooting. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is leading the probe into the shooting.

On July 3, 2022, police held a press conference and released body camera video from the eight officers who opened fire, as well as five additional officers on the scene.

At the press conference, police displayed still images that they say showed a muzzle flash coming from Walker's vehicle during the highway chase.

Police also displayed still images that they say showed Walker reaching towards his waist area during the foot chase, turning towards an officer, and making "a forward motion of his arm".

The body camera footage released by police ends after the officers opened fire and does not depict what happened afterwards.

Police shoot a guy holding realistic looking airsoft gun

On September 17, 2022, around 1:20 p.m., Southeast Division patrol officers responded to a radio call of a family dispute at a residence in the 400 block of West 102nd Street. As the officers approached the residence, a man, later identified as 19-year-old Luis Herrera, came out the front door holding what appeared to be a black rifle. The officers gave Herrera commands to drop the rifle, however, Herrera did not comply. Herrera shouldered the rifle and pointed it at the officers, resulting in an OIS. Herrera was struck by gunfire and fell to the ground.

Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics arrived and pronounced Herrera deceased.

No officers or bystanders were injured during this incident.

It was later determined the rifle Herrera was holding during the OIS was an airsoft gun.

It's not a very violent video, but it's still interesting. Residents of the city of Umbaúba, on the south coast of Sergipe, saw a police approach that resulted in death on May 25. A man was killed after being arrested by two federal highway patrol officers inside a “gas chamber” mounted in the trunk of a police vehicle. The man killed by road police was identified as 38-year-old Genivaldo de Jesus Santos. The victim's nephew, Wallyson de Jesus, witnessed the situation and stated that his uncle had a mental disorder. In a note, the Highway Police stated that the man had “actively resisted” the approach. The agents then used “immobilization techniques and instruments of lesser offensive potential” to contain the victim's aggressiveness, who fell ill on the way to the police station and died before reaching the hospital.

Officer disrupts a murder in progress

The incident involving six-year officer Blake Witherspoon was presented to an Angelina County grand jury Tuesday, resulting in a no-bill, according to a Lufkin Police Department press release. A “no-bill” means the grand jury concluded that Witherspoon acted appropriately and that they saw no grounds to indict him on a criminal charge.

Witherspoon shot and killed Epthen Johnson, 40, of Lufkin, in the early morning hours of March 1 in the 400 block of Kurth Drive following a 911 call from a witness who saw Johnson attacking a man; the witness described the scene as a man being “knifed to death.”

Witherspoon arrived to see Johnson crouched on top of the man, stabbing and cutting at his head and neck. Witherspoon commanded Johnson multiple times to show his hands, but Johnson did not acknowledge the officer’s presence and continued stabbing at the man.

“Recognizing the signs of PCP intoxication, (Witherspoon) did not believe a Taser would be an effective tool in stopping Johnson’s attack,” the press release stated

[BodyCam] New Mexico Cops Fatally Shot Armed Guy At A Gas Station

A little after 11 p.m. Sunday Albuquerque police officers shot and killed a man during “some kind of confrontation” at a West Side gas station.

The man was later identified as 27-year-old Keshawn Thomas. Police say a gun was found at the scene.

Police Chief Harold Medina, speaking during an early morning news conference outside the scene, said officers were called for a “down and out” at the Valero Gas Station on Coors and Quail NW at 11:15 p.m.

The officers had been speaking with someone at the nearby intersection so when the call came in they were able to immediately walk over.

“The individual was inside a vehicle,” Medina said. “They thought the individual may be intoxicated and passed out.”

Medina said the officers had Thomas step out of the car and as they were speaking with him he began to smoke a cigarette so they asked him to step away from the gas pumps toward the sidewalk.

“At a point in time the individual did re-enter the vehicle,” Medina said. “Some kind of confrontation occurred between the officer and the individual and multiple officers fired shots.”

Thomas was taken to the hospital, where he died.

Medina said a firearm and magazines that did not belong to officers were found at the scene.

In response to questions, an Albuquerque Police Department spokesman said he did not know how many officers were at the scene during the call nor how many shot at Thomas.

He said details about the firearm – including about where it was found and whether Thomas reached for it or pointed it at the officers – are being investigated.

“We probably won’t have more information until they are able to review video and see exactly what occurred, what conversations occurred,” Medina said.

Early Monday morning, crime scene investigators could be seen photographing the scene, including more than a dozen evidence markers. The green Dodge Challenger Thomas had been in was still stopped at the pump, now roped off with crime scene tape.

The Journal could not reach Thomas’ family members on Monday. His only prior charge was a DWI from 2018 that was dismissed because deadlines were not met.

Thomas attended Central New Mexico Community College off and on from the fall of 2013 to the end of the 2017 spring term with a declared major of welding, according to a CNM spokesman.

This is the 12th time APD officers have shot at someone in 2022.

However, that includes one case where a man killed himself and three other cases where they fired at someone but didn’t hit them. In all, APD officers have killed seven people this year and injured one.

By contrast, in all of 2021 APD officers fired at people 10 times. Four of those people were killed, five were injured and in one case the officers missed.

Man shot multiple times after attacking officers

Man wielding a knife is shot by police officers then gets up and continue attacking the officers before being fatally shot

23 year old Aaron Hong was shot and killed after running towards an Officer with a butch knife and trying to reach for the Officer's gun. Earlier Officers were receiving a lot of 911 calls about a man acting “erratically” holding a knife and covered in blood. Three Officers arrived and saw Hong was still holding the knife. Two Officers were involved in the shooting and the names are Officer David Harrison and Officer Charles Bidinger. When Officers saw Hong, Hong was drenched in his blood and the Officers pleaded for Hong to drop the knife, but Hong refused those commands. Hong started to advance towards Officers and then started to advance toward Officer Harrison, causing Officer Harrison to shoot at Hong 7 times. Hong then fell on the ground and then got back up and told them to shoot him. Hong then ran towards Officer Harrison again and this time Hong grabbed Officer Harrison and tried to grab Officer Harrison's gun, Officer Harrison yelled out that Hong was reaching for his gun and that was when Hong was shot 4 more times by Officer Bidinger. Officer Bidinger was attempting to use a taser on Hong, but Hong ran at Officer Harrison and tried to reach for Officer Harrison's gun. Hong was then treated by paramedics, but ultimately died from his injuries. Officer Harrison was treated for a minor injury. Officer Bidinger has been with ACCPD for less than a year, and has been involved in two shootings, the first occurring in March when a man charged officers with what was later revealed to be an airsoft gun. Harrison has been with ACCPD for seven years.
